I would pay to see that! but yeah, no way they’d actually want to do that fight - they’ll dodge it like they dodge responsibility, drafts and intellect.

I have said more than once that international conflict needs to be resolved by more head of state on head of state boxing matches instead of ridiculous bombing campaigns that mostly kill civilians who, in my experience as one myself, have a near universal opinion of “basically all war is stupid”

conservative social media commentator Andrew Callaghan

I haven’t watched much Channel 5 content recently. Is Andrew actually sliding to the right? I thought he was more of an “enlightened centrist” who provided coverage to people on both sides of the aisle

He keeps his interviews pretty center so he can keep doors open but he’s for sure a leftist. If you watch the interview with Nick Shirley or his series on homelessness and gentrification it comes out pretty strong

He’s still pretty enlightened centrist. I think he’s more concerned about making sure everyone thinks he’s cool than real gonzo journalism now, though.

“What do you mean we’re both not allowed to have someone else fight for us? That’s life, that’s how it works no? Someone else does everything for me and I get the results! Why is this different!? Communist!!!”

The only problem is that someone will win. A better idea would be a race to the Titanic wreck.

tells conservative social media commentator Andrew Callaghan

What fucking idiot thinks Channel 5 is right wing?!

    Answer:

The mouthpiece for a fascist authorarian apparently…

In 2024, Reporters Without Borders ranked Turkey 158th in the world for press freedom among 180 countries. According to Reporters Without Borders, “The witch hunt waged by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government against its media critics has come to a head since an abortive coup in July 2016. A state of emergency has allowed the authorities to eliminate dozens of media outlets with the stroke of a pen, reducing pluralism to a handful of low-circulated and targeted publications.”

In review, when reporting non-Turkey-related news, TRT World reports with minimally loaded language and utilizes credible sources such as Vox, Moscow Times, NY Times, Washington Post, Tass and republishes credible news agencies such as Reuters.

TRT World reflects a pro-government tone in its national coverage, as seen through its analysis of the upcoming elections. Most national coverage heavily sided with the ruling party and less coverage of the main opposition party candidate. Further, the UK’s Spectator states TRT World is “President Erdogan’s mouthpiece to woo the west.” In short, this is a pro-government propaganda source.

Although TRT World presents relatively low biased coverage of USA news, such as “Trump cancels summit with Kim; North Korea still wants talks,” they source through large blocks of quotes without providing any links to the sources.

Shhh, Andrew works very hard to convince that side that they can trust him to do an interview. After the Shirley stuff, he needs something like this to be able to get back behind enemy lines.

The full quote was “conservative media commentator” which I think means he comments on conservative media, not that he is a conservative who is a media commentator. I agree it’s confusing wording though.

Would’ve been better if they just called him a gonzo journalist as he’s closer to that then a commentator.

I don’t think anyone would read it to mean that. Also, he interviews just as many people on the left, but mostly people who are…just completely out there.

They better drug test both sides beforehand and if they aren’t blitzed out of their minds on coke or crack it’s an instant DQ.

Fair. Although in this case I think semantically we could argue it’s more of a “method of choice” thing. Kinda like smoking dabs vs taking edibles. Not exactly but close enough. Especially if one doesn’t decarb the edibles.

Crack isn’t “concentrated” cocaine, it’s just freebase cocaine.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_base

In chemistry, a free base (freebase, free-base) is a term for the neutral form of an amine or other Lewis base. The term is used in the pharmaceutical industry in contrast to salt-based formulations like hydrochlorides. The amine is often an alkaloid, such as nicotine, morphine, and ephedrine, or derivatives thereof
