So why are all these companies holding the majority of the market hostage on windows?

And paybacks.
Linux and their users absolutely have reputations that make the mental move more difficult. Plus marketing. If more people, that are continually getting sick of Windows, knew that there was a plug and play Linux distro that’s as easy to use, they’d probably be a lot more likely to move over.
