Andy Burnham has said that he wants to bring a sense of hope into politics – could that see him introduce a universal basic income in the UK?

    Could? possibly

    Would? no

Best he can do is a lip-service to left 2% tax on housholds with more than £100m in assets, which probably won’t pass and is far from enough even if it did

The guy who wants to drill, baby, drill, and who also isn’t stopping the Internet ID BS unlike what is reported? Yeah, sure he’ll get it done.

Don’t even need to open the article to find out.

Betteridge’s law of headlines is an adage that states: “Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no.” It is based on the assumption that if the publishers were confident that the answer was yes, they would have presented it as an assertion; by presenting it as a question, they are not accountable for whether it is correct or not.

Not any time soon. He’s still committed to balancing budgets, and the cost-of-living measures he has promised will be putting enough strain on that.

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don’t post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
