We have /c/fuckcars but no /c/fuckplanes. Yet a lot of the same arguments apply. They cause air pollution (roughly double the amount per km traveled), noise pollution and they (airports) take up a lot of space near dense living areas. Sure, some places can practically only be visited by plane, just like some places can practically only be visited by car. But people don’t consider not having your holiday that far away or giving pushback on a busines trip that should have been an online meeting. Besides work-from-home being encouraged, work-from-home-country should be too.
Cars need to be discouraged in favor of busses, trams and trains. Planes nees to be discouraged in favor of high-speed trains, staycations and hopefully new alternatives like modern sailboats or electric planes.
Planes suck, but we all know they’re inefficient and the experience is terrible. Most people would rather take a train on most trips.
Cars though. People still defend cars. They kill more, too
It’s true that people defend cars. But my problem is that people don’t question planes. And when people say they hate air travel it’s often about the experience and not about the impact on our environment and cities
I don’t think a lot of people believe air travel as-is could be considered sustainable by any stretch of the imagination, no matter how poor their understanding of physics.
They know it’s a problem, but the problem is easy to ignore. People think their trip is just a small drop in the bucket, but it all adds up.
