You bought 16 tuberculosis. :/
Yummy!! 16 Tender Bites?
Close: Tesseract Bytes.
It arbitrarily hides some of your data based on some asshole’s petulance.
may be a fake, may be a refurb that was relabeled and they don’t speak the language so they didn’t know the difference and sold it as new claiming that it is a China Only version.
Honestly I’m surprised there are people still buying SATA drives. What’s next, buying a spinning drive?
You can just reply to deleted comments. Nothing stopping you
Then why can’t I do it? Limitation of the Voyager app?
Let’s test something. Delete your comment.
Look up what a 16TB SSD costs and you might be able to figure it out.
How did you reply after I already deleted the comment?
Sometimes it takes it a while for the delete to federate to other instances, I assume.
I don´t think that’s correct. I’ve replied to comments after they’ve been shown as deleted.
I kind of like it better than reddit’s “don’t spend too much time writing a reply to a comment because it might have been deleted by the time you hit send and then you have nowhere to post it”
It’s just creative packaging for packs of 16 Tea Bags.
A suggestion - plug it into a USB SATA adapter/enclosure and check it with ValiDrive: https://www.grc.com/validrive.htm
(unless you’re just going to return it without opening the ESD bag)
So here is what it looks like. It’s encased but quite light. I am returning it - obviously - so I can’t open it to see what’s actually inside.

Nice. There’s probably nothing in there but an adapter board and a ROM chip running just enough of the firmware to report the drive as 16TB.
Where did you buy this at? Name & shame the seller?
So out of curiosity, I did what you suggested but I’m unclear about the outcome. Looks like the drive is shit as it already crashed on me.

Maybe you can tell me how fake it is.
Serial number: 6
So 5 other people bought one of these before you?
Also don’t use all 4KB of your storage in one place.
I’m really curious what’s inside the case. OP does it feel as heavy as a 16TB HDD? I’m curious if there’s just a tiny little SD card soldered inside this thing.
FOUR KILOBYTES
holy christ the lowest i’ve ever seen was at least like 24 megs, that’s heinous
Whoa, that looks like trash. Are you getting a refund for that?
Can you send a picture of the bottom of the drive with the control board?
Also what adapter / enclosure are you using?
Why though? On the hope it’s an actual WD? But what purpose would that serve as most likely something has been messed with to make it cheaper. Or maybe from the same WD manufacturing line?
Curiosity, mostly. And yes, it could be a “factory second” labeled for local sale.
A SMART report would be interesting too. Perhaps it’s a relabeled old drive.
Would be a good upgrade to my Ailenwear gayming laptop.
Gayming is based ngl

Yoo we got queer esports???
I was as surprised as I was happy to know it exists, even if I never remember to watch it.
Looks just like an Empire of the Sun album cover. Which is a good thing, of course.
It looks legit
probably a heavily used/worn down second hand item relabeled and reflashed
But still 16 TB?
there are programs to check if the capacity is real. these are usually made to identify faked usb flash drives but it can probably be used here too
I think the term soft drive would be more applicable here.
I think you might be right.
Why not called it eastern digital?
That’s what I was thinking
Western Digital vs Eastern Analog
Probably more reliable than the real drive, every drive I’ve ever had a problem with has been WD.
What’s wrong with the trustworthy and well known brand Wetsoen Digitol?
I got a WD Red from Amazon that looked exactly like a legit one, though kinda scratched up. I was only able to tell because I tried running a SMART test and it didn’t even fail, it just didn’t work. I got dubious, so I tried to register the product on Western Digital website and it lacked the necessary code. I then contacted WD and learned it was fake, thankfully I could return it and get money back.
