Sounds like the business owner has entered the “find out” stage.

This is actually quite similar to what happened to a local Ottawa business a few years ago https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/stella-lunas-wellington-location-closes-its-doors

TL;DR they supported the trucker convoy and then people stopped going to their two locations. They also got a newly-opened business in the same building kicked out. Both times they complained about the finding out part of FAFO. Eventually they closed two locations because they couldn’t make money.

It was actually the best thing, because now the city’s best ice cream shop is in that location and has long lines every night. I just hope the convoy supporters would close their remaining location…

Haha, I didn’t know that place closed down. I went when I visited in the summer of 23. Like most things in Ottawa, it was over hyped and over priced.

I mean, distance yourself and your business from the communities you exist to serve and this is bound to happen.

I highly doubt this is because of hosting separatists, otherwise his business ran out of money insanely fast.

More likely is he’s been struggling for a while and now has a scapegoat (“I’m not a crappy business owner who ran it into the ground, it was the federalists!”).

What’s interesting is that cafe has been there since 1999. There’s clearly a market. He bought it two years ago and turned it into this.

You “highly doubt”? Man, that’s some messed up thought patterns. If they closed a coffee shop in Cold Lake (pop 16K - seven coffee shops remain) because of mismanagement this timing is exactly right - mismanage to till you run out of credit then cut your losses and bail. Stick the blame on anyone but yourself and your piss-poor management. He said the coffee shop’s decline started with COVID when he joined a traitor-sect. Hmmm, who is the baddie in this recounting: COVID, traitors (let’s call them what they are), or lousy management of the two.

Ya makes yer bed an ya lies innit.

Oh, and mismanagement IS doing stupid, trendy, selfish things like hosting traitors in hopes of grifting money off their cult. His mismanagement was not accounting for the inherent cheapness of his target demographic.

An Alberta café owner (John Ewanek) says his business has shuttered after he hosted separatists and lost customers.

    Deserved

If he really hates Canada so much, he needs to point himself south and start walking.

Eventually he’ll run into the American border and have the opportunity to immigrate.
