I’ve had the same kind of thing happen in various circumstances. I think they really, deep down, don’t believe you on this, and if you manage to convince them of this, it’s like something shorts out in their head.
They really just cannot comprehend that. Not the marks in the base, anyway.
Their thought leaders do comprehend, and use that kind of morality as a weapon, because they know Democrats actually GAF about citizens and outcomes, etc. Republicans will just hold the entire nation hostage because they don’t.
Funny how it’s only the Democrats who ever resign from the bad things they do.
The difference is SHAME. At times it’s not felt by Democrats, but it’s NEVER felt by Republicans.

In case you hadn’t heard, Gonzalez says he’s resigning too. Of course, he didn’t do that until after the Dems announced they would be down a seat.
