The Satanic Temple isn’t a religion in the traditional sense. They also do a lot of activism. Here are their tenets:
I One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
II The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
III One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
IV The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.
V Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.
VI People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
VII Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
They’re different than the Church of Satan, which promotes LaVey Satanism and is a bit more churchy, though that’s also technically atheist
I’ve known about them for a long time. Since before Hail Satan? came out. I support their mission but know many people who begin treating it as others do traditional religion and I think we’d be better off fighting our battles through secular humanist groups.
Ironic username aside, it would seem you’re making wild assumptions about something without knowing the most basic information about it. You couldn’t have done the bare minimum research before going off?
I don’t expect that of people anywhere, it’s sad but true. I never truly lose hope but have realised it’s not healthy to expect better. It sucks that fully uninformed reactions are the basic thing but people keep proving that’s the case.
Username not ironic. I’ve gone through many flavors of both theistic and atheistic Satanism and see people end up becoming rigid with belief. Even TST keeps infighting and causing schisms within itself. It’s all so fucking stupid and we should seek to better the self through the self and stop using these pseudo-spiritual crutches. We should build secular humanist groups to get ourselves out of this Christofascist quagmire and not play by their rules and definitions.
Or try no religion and no church at all. Just live life and enjoy your time without magical crutches.
