Banks do have a shit ton of cameras. Mostly pointed at the employees, because that’s where the highest risk is. But everywhere else, too.
For banks that have guards, they want to be as obvious as possible to act as a deterrent. Better to prevent a robbery than to investigate one after the fact.
I won’t speak about banks, but many (most?) security guards at businesses aren’t even armed. They are there as a deterrent, but also to witness and document. They are also (usually mildly) trained to defuse a violent situation and get any robbers out the door without bloodshed.
