The best is the collage of pics of other presidents wearing tan suits that didn’t cause a conservative meltdown.

P.S. Those presidents had white skin.

It was about bigotry. Always is with conservatives/regressives.

It’s clearly worse to be the first Black President than the first President convicted of felonies and held civily liable for sexual assault while openly accepting bribes from adversarial nations.

The media dictate to you what to care about.

The people who control the narrative using the herd effect to their own advantage.

I’ve been watching Veep recently. At one point, there’s a storyline where there’s a data leak that outs a little girl with HIV and it’s a huge scandal. If Trump’s administration did that, it would just be another Tuesday

Yeah, but 'Murica is a racist, stupid, hateful and profoundly ignorant place that celebrates selfishness, was founded on cruelty, inequality and genocide

They just spent 250 years lying to themselves and the civilised world about it, and too many people believed it

The night he was first elected in 2016 I turned to my friend and said “the bar is permanently lowered now” cuz it was obvious that it would be a race to the bottom from there.

I’m not particularly happy I was right about that.

We’re almost assuredly never going back to “normal” politics. Every grifting piece of shit in the nation knows how far they can push the boundaries and personally benefit from the office of the presidency now.

I take it as a sign that things won’t last much longer.

When the thing that’s supposed to help keep the government in check is instead running cover for them, the top will start wobbling

The media hasn’t been interested in holding government accountable in my lifetime. It was less overtly partisan pre 9/11, but that’s about it.

Still managing to hold onto the illusion that the magic legal fairy will come save everyone? Laws don’t exist in nature, someone has to enforce them. Still people are persisting with the fairy tale that the law will automatically stop this

That’s very optimistic. History shows that once a regime is established, power is consolidated, the media is in line and protests are repressed, ousting the regime and rebuilding democracy can take a long time.

Russia had this level of obvious corruption and pillaging of state resources in the 90s, and where are they now?

No it wouldn’t. It’d barely register and maybe take up one spot in the 24 hour news cycle, then everyone would forget in two weeks tops. Let’s not kid ourselves. Trump isn’t special. He’s not better at media manipulation than any other retired actor. Our media just doesn’t report things that people with money don’t want reported, and more importantly, they never report on anything for more than a week.

Exactly. The media DID run lots of segments about Trump’s illegal activities - in 2015, in 2020, in 2024. Fucking Americans voted for him anyway - god-damned 79 million amoral imbeciles. Another 85 million pieces of shit sat on their asses and did nothing while he got re-elected. Now he is persecuting his critics. Can you blame the press? Why report on Trump’s crimes if you can be jailed or murdered by one of his goons just so millions of cretinous Americans vote for him anyway?

When the people elect a criminal to do criminal things, the press has no responsibility to catalogue his crimes. Trump’s crimes aren’t news - they are his public record as president. America asked for this - for the first time in 250 years, the USA has the president it truly deserves. People say Trump is a liar - what a fucking laugh! He is maybe the most honest politician I have ever seen. “Vote for me and you will never have to vote again.” He told you exactly what to expect. Don’t act outraged now.

  • PS, thanks to the internet, there’s a fuckton of independent news media that is covering the CapOne money laundering accounts. If your news diet isn’t covering it, it might be time to browse about for sources to add to it.

  • I’m on mobile for the moment, but for a good deep dive into this, hunt down the Behind the Bastards two parter on How The Liberal Media Helped Fascism Win

Part one gets into the Jewish owned German newspapers that sided with NSDAP because their owners identified more with ownership class than they did their Jewish working class brethren.

Part two is about the present day news media bending the knee to Trump.
