People like Billy Corgan (racists) propose that rock and roll fell out of favour towards the end of the 90s and rap boomed due to a concerted effort aka psyop, to change culture. Billy probably thought rock and by extension his band should just remain popular for time immemorial apparently. No word on how disco lovers of the 70s feel about all this.
