The whole furry thing is creepy as hell. It’s weird. Wanting to have sex with anthropomorphized animals is not a thing that should be normalized.

And it’s even creepier when they add things like “kitten” or showing anthropomorphized animal kids.

And thank you to Unruffled [they/them] / Flatworm7591 @lemmy.dbzer0.com for this sane and reasonable response.

And thanks to recursive_recursion who seems to be an alt of Flatworm for continuing that sane and reasonable response. Note that in over 1,400 comments here I’ve never once said a single word against trans people. Not once.

It really bothers me when people lie about racism. So many people really do experience it so much in life, and lying using false racism accusations as a sword and shield to make other people look bad and make themselves look like the victim is demeaning to every real instance people suffer.

Hopefully one day this person realizes that lying about transphobia for the same reasons does the same thing.

I get that the shirt was posted here as a shit post. But you know there are people in the world, and likely here on the internet, who would wear shirts like this in public, and even more who only don’t because they know they’d be made fun of.

Why do you care what other people want to do? Do you literally have nothing better to do in life?

People form opinions all the time about all sorts of things other people do. If you walk out of the front door and there’s someone in nothing but a cowboy hat, gas mask, diaper, and high heels you are probably going to think something like “that’s really weird” or “that’s creepy” or maybe “I shouldn’t have eaten all of those mushrooms.”

Fetishization of others due to their racial characteristics is generally considered a bad thing. Due to the topic jumping to aliens as a defense seems like that more than anything else.

Wolves and Zebas and the like are already on Earth, and it’s already considered very wrong to have sex with them pretty much everywhere.

Everybody has preferences, it’s not immoral to have different preferences than someone else, fetishizing is harmful when it causes you to stop treating someone like a person and instead treat them as an object.

Because A: there are no actual furries irl to be harmed and B: most of the fandom is actually very invested in who their characters are as people

I think that argument falls flat, I brought up aliens to counter the argument you made next about animals already existing. Because no animals on earth can talk. Furries might have animal characteristics but conceptually they are closer to aliens than animals unless you only care about visuals.

… no, furries are humans. They’re not aliens or animals. Humans who like to pretend they’re part animal and involve sex with that. It’s not harming anyone so it’s not immoral, but it’s definitely weird and creepy.

Furries means the humans who are in the fandom, but it also means the characters, I was referring to the characters

maybe thats the line. Sorry hi, im reading through for understanding because my intial reaction is the same as OP but its nice to see the discourse so I can learn.

So this, “It’s a character” actually helps my understanding. Been a theme a bit this week, understanding how someone plays a character and stays in character. Was watching a game live stream, it had some role play, and I really didnt like this once character because he was playing someone… just anyway. But someone explained to me the character bit, and …Im working on it.

So when you say this here, about the furry community, and it being them playing a character, I can make sense of it a bit in this way. I dont think ill ever fully understand, but this makes sense, It’s a character, like in a play, live action role play of sorts.

Depending on the person/community it can either be LARPing (playing the character in a public setting for a time, not acting in private or in other settings) or can be like method acting (always in character regardless of circumstances).
