I made one with a hard drive and a TB of games on it as a Christmas gift for a friend and myself.
Me, old enough to have owned an Atari 2600 (…clone):
side eye monkey meme
I still have mine. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get ready to lay down in my great pyramid.
Was recently talking to a working student at $DAYJOB about LLMs and wanted to make the point that the pay-per-use model shows they’re still a relatively new/immature technology. So, I likened them to mobile phone calls, which would generally cost you per minute in the early 2000s.
Yeah, she had no idea what I was talking about.
I have two in my closet and one downstairs in the TV Room, just in case one of them gives up. Plenty spare controllers as well. Made some of my best childhood/teen gaming memories with that console. Played it at the first sleepover i ever went to and at a boatload of family gatherings. It still gets use to this day for racing games when the family is here.
I haven’t played video games since the Atari 2600. You kids don’t know!! Back in my day I had to walk ten miles in the snow for a hit of ecstacy
In our day we had to walk seventeen miles down the beach to get into the deep end of the ocean
around here the droughts are so bad that you need to walk much further
So is that why you old folks f*cked up the planet so that ocean can come vist us 17 miles high \s
I still have my first US gen PS2 (fat boy, not the slim one) and it still works fine. Doesn’t look good on modern tvs though
don’t be sad that you’re old enough to have played on a real life ps2, or even ps1-- be glad that 9/11, 2008, covid, and 2 diaperman potus terms aren’t the most significant core memories of your childhood
9/11 and COVID were 20 years apart my man
yea. i made the comment with us 45+ yr old people in mind. my bad
I might be stupid but it still doesn’t make any sense to me
i’m old. when 9/11 happened i heard about it on the radio on the way to work. when the DJ mentioned it being passed on to him by his producer, he thought it was a joke or prank call. then the 2nd plane hit, and it wasn’t a joke. when i got to work we all went into the boardroom and watched the news for about an hour, then they cancelled the work day so everyone could go home and make phone calls
all that to say 9/11 wasn’t a “childhood” memory for me
Then PS1 and PS2 weren’t part of your childhood either right?
That’s one long childhood
Hey, I’m not finished yet!
What? I had a PS1 and PS2, and 9/11 is one of my earliest memories. ‘08 was also childhood suckery.
Covid + PedOTUS is a separate generation.
my mistake
9/11 is my first memory that still has visuals attached to it because i vividly remember the room i was in when it was on tv. I own 3 ps2s as well
I bought my PS2 from Toys R Us…
Crumbles into dust…
Still have my NES with the light gun and a CRT for duck hunt
I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
And yet I’m old enough to have seen the release of the original PlayStation and old enough to remember it
I’m old enough to remember the release of the nes
I’m old enough to forget everything.
I’m old enough to smell toast

When I was growing up, I met older people who had seen the Beatles perform live, had seen Jimi Hendrix perform live, and had gone to Woodstock (and hated it).
“Are you old enough to have seen the console that had the most units produced over the longest lifetime of any other console, and which is still made in some parts of the world today?”
I want a brand new ps2 with all the old ps2 games. I bet it exists, eh?
You can take a ps2 off Ebay, and with some pretty easy computering and a hard drive you can have a PS2 with hundreds of games built in. Downloading a terabyte of games is the longest part.
the ps2 was discontinued worldwide on 4 january 2013
Which means that teenager was very likely ALSO alive when the last one was made
My last console 😢
Me sad, me nostalgic
My consolences.
