Being 9060xt based is the main bonus over the Steam Machine. It’s a good bump over the 7600
Would it be safe to say that the Steam Machine would be priced slightly lower than this console based on those specs?
Most likely. I don’t think Valve would release this at a price higher than 1.1k Euros. If we are lucky it will cost 700…
But also starts at €1,089.00. And it’s to be seen how well the company will support the operating system and software over the years. This is something where Valve is a prime example how to handle it. But it’s nice to have alternatives, if it is well supported in the future. I’m also curious how the operating system stacks up against SteamOS and the other community driven projects.
Interesting.
Is this dragoonDorise’s work? I interviewed them a few years back, and chatted again a couple weeks ago, hoping to write a feature article on the hardware, but that was a no-go.
They were interested in having me write an article on the EmuDeck Android app, but then just kinda ghosted me

Looks more like a cooking stove than a gaming console. Or does it run hot enough to fry eggs on it?
You can warm your fleshlight on the black circle while playing anime tiddy games
neat!
It looks like an Acaia scale…
On the thumbnail it looks like Xbox Series S to me.
Not to say that is bad thing - I like the design.
Oh, that was definitely not a critique. I have a Series S myself (but to be honest not using it, got it from my bro) and find the design and look adorable. It’s actually my favorite design of current gen consoles.
I didn’t perceive it as critique, I guess we are d’accord!
Ha! What I came to say - neat!
I like these console/PCs that people are coming up with. Its a somewhat more repairable/open option for those that would like something that can be hacked away at.
It’s peculiar that they named it “playNixOS” and subsequently chose a non-Nix-based foundation. In my opinion, a custom distribution is an ideal platform to demonstrate the capabilities and flexibility of Nix. It is likely that they could have completed the project in half the time… not to mention how much easier it would be to update it.
“Nix” in this context likely comes from Unix, the operating system that GNU/Linux sought to replace. Unix still has cultural significance within the Linux community, so I think it’s a much more likely explanation than naming it after Nix/NixOS.
Thanks, Captain obvious.
I’m confused, was your comment meant to be sarcastic? It didn’t read that way to me at all. If not, then I don’t get the “Captain Obvious” reply, as I simply answered the implied question that was the foundation of your comment (“Why is it named ‘PlayNixOS’ if it isn’t based on Nix/NixOS?”). Your comment did not indicate to me that this was knowledge you already had, so I don’t see a point in calling me out on it. There are plenty of people using a Linux-based operating system that don’t know the history of it, so I can’t simply assume every commenter has that knowledge.
Running the CPU and GPU at ~75% and 98% on Cyberpunk 2077 and keeping it at 65ºC is quite a feat, ngl
