The Republican-led Senate on Wednesday rejected the latest Democratic attempt to halt Donald Trump’s war in Iran, turning aside a resolution that would require the U.S. to withdraw forces from the conflict until Congress authorizes further action.
The 47-52 vote was the fourth time this year that the Senate has voted to cede its war powers to the president in a conflict that Democrats say is illegal and unjustified.
Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote against it. Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky voted with Democrats.
Fetterman has brain damage.
Fetterman is literally an exemplar case study in the idea that brain damage causes conservatism.
Never trust someone from York County
Fucker should go to the front line himself.
The front line in this case is dotting buildings on google maps
Send him in to help clean up the little kids bodies after the next school bombing
I hope this ghoul gets primaried into oblivion the next time he’s up for reelection.
Something isn’t right with him.
Sounds like that stroke a few years ago left him with some serious brain damage, and radically changed his political opinions/ideology (are those two related???).
The stroke was before he took office. For his first 18-24 months in office his voting record was pretty much along Dem party lines.
This is who he’s always been.
No, he was a racist and a zionist before he was elected, we just chose not to see it. The alternatives in the primary were just as bad. This was lost when Fetterman was the left most candidate in the primary.
Ah okay, fair enough.
I mourn that money that could have gone to a real progressive. Instead we have this.
He’ll be the only Democrat on the tickets and every single Democrat will show up to vote for him.
I can see it now Fetterman Vs a maga republican, and democrats will say you gotta vote blue no matter who and blame leftists when the maga republican wins.
Both of you really do not understand how any of this works.
Only how you wished it work.
Yep, they dont care about fascism or genocide, they just want their team doing it
There’s no need for congress to pass this. The constitution already requires it. But of course the courts are captured so they won’t enforce it.
Had a stroke and woke up republican.
This is why a very minimum requirement for an actual democracy includes recall voting.
Dude just straight up decided to betray his constituents and nothing can be done to remove him.
Luigi time!
God did his part
And if you want to stay under the radar, you can just type Looweegee

Reminder not to joke about encouraging people to do incredibly cool and sexy crimes, the FBI are not required to show context when they’re showing your and other peoples posts to a judge for getting a warrent.
I came here to mention this. Glad I’m not alone. I do not understand why we can’t recall or impeach Congress members by vote.
Are you going to replace them with the republican candidate?
Why does everything have to be so unequivocal or binary? He’s not who they voted for now. Should they have to endure it?
Easy solution is the ousted candidate’s party gets to choose a temporary replacement, but a new election must be held at the very next election to find a permanent replacement be they Democrat or Republican (whomever the people elect). Easy peasy.
I do not understand why we can’t recall or impeach Congress members by vote
Because then the people might recall them and put in politicians who do what they want. And that’s bad for the people who don’t want what the people want; the capitalist class whom finances their campaigns.
Democracy bad.
Bourgeois democracy is designed to defend the interests of the bourgeoisie over other classes. This isn’t a flaw inherent to democracy, this is a flaw inherent to capitalism.
I agree with this, which probably explains the nuance lacking in the previous statement.
I don’t know, man. I’m a Democrat because I support policies like marijuana legalization and free healthcare. The conflict in Iran is pretty low on my agenda. I wouldn’t feel particularly betrayed if he was my elected official.
I never understood bipartisanship. My opinions and beliefs span the entire political spectrum. It feels like people think that anything supported by Republicans must be anti-Democrat.
Damn, a self aware person plainly stating their own selfishness. Don’t see that every day.
Bizarre.
It’s akin to saying “I understand slavery is bad, I just don’t care. Mr Jeeves is a pretty good slave.”
The conflict in Iran is pretty low on my agenda.
It’s costing US taxpayers an insane amount of money every day and driving up the cost of almost everything, you can’t just not care about it, even if you overlook all the needless death.
elected under false pretenses
Was he? Or did brain damage turn him republican? Because it seems like there is something mentally wrong with most republicans.
Studies showed that people who trended conservative tended to have more active parts of the brain for emotions, especially fear. They’re older and finding anything older than 2 months on the internet is like archeology.
I would also add “no confidence” recall voting and a two term limit, so politicians can’t form these decades-long relationships with their billionaire owners.
I hope nobody in PA tries to make rissoto.
Vote blue no matter who! 🤪
Though he was still better than Oz. But not much.
Why not just draft a bill that is a formal declaration of war or immediate cease and desist of war activities of it doesn’t pass? Force the Republicans to formally stain themselves with war.
or immediate cease and desist of war activities of it doesn’t pass
That’s not a thing, you can’t make a law that has effects if it doesn’t pass.
Well they ought to be able to. Make it like a vote of confidence in the war. Either we’re at war or the process to continue trumps aggression fails.
So there is the War Powers Resolution act, which requires the president get congressional approval within 60 days of hostilities. Obama’s admin made up some bullshit why it didn’t apply to his wars, and Trump will probably ignore it all together.
Obama’s admin made up some bullshit why it didn’t apply to his wars, and Trump will probably ignore it all together.
How bloody convenient, eh?
A law asking the president to do a thing is unenforceable anyway, since the president would be the one enforcing it.
All congress can do is impeach presidents until they come up with one that does the thing they want or stop funding the military.
I wish there was a recall process.
Wouldn’t the more a accurate headline be “Fetterman is the only pro-Iran-War senator to claim to be a democrat?”
All it takes to be a Democratic elected official is to run as a party member and get elected. He did those things. He’s a Democrat. The Democratic party is just a lot more right wing at its extremes (and overall) than folks like to admit.
Fetterman hasn’t been a Democrat in quite a while now.
What party is he a member of?
The party of a good paycheck, free insurance.
Well he was elected as a Democrat and then suffered brain damage and started voting as a Republican. So DINO.
Sorry, when did he switch parties again? Think I missed it.
I don’t understand this dude…he’s all over the place…in otherwords…Loose cannon…nope!
This is more like, “Fetterman is only Democrat to be seriously primaried for again rejecting effort to halt Iran war.”
