Canada need to start manufacturing drones (and artillery) in the far north, as far from the southern border we can logistically get away with.
We don’t have the facilities to manufacture drones, the flight controllers, motors, and carbon fiber would all need to be imported.

Motors are easy. There’s a place in my city that rewinds motors, casting and machining would be needed, but Canada has excellent machine shops in Ontario and spread across other places.

Drone (quad copters) motors are an entirely different beast from normal AC electric motors used in industry. The core is a stack of stamped steel lamination that are ~30mm wide, special dies would need to be manufactured for those. They require special machines to wind because the stator is inside the rotor and it is so small. They need crazy small ball bearing that are only manufactured overseas.
And the same goes for the electronics. No one In Canada manufactures micro-controllers, MEMS sensors, or power electronics that would be needed for the flight controllers and motor drives.
It would be like manufacturing an entire line of 100% Canadian home appliances, there are 1000 sub-parts that we just do not make here.
We could though, Windsor is king of tool and die expertise. So the stamped metal would not be an issue at all.

The person you reply to can criticize Carney, but he should be correct in doing so. Education, health, and AFAIK even environment, is all provincial responsibilities. There may be transfers for all of those from the federal government, but it’s all managed by the provinces. So how can Carney and the federal liberals can say they’re going to cut funding for healthcare and education when they’re not funding it in the first place?

What? Most of what you mentioned is funded by the provinces. Health and education are among the biggest parts of a province’s budget. And AFAIK none of the four most populated provinces currently have a liberal government.

The federal governments enacts policies that have to be followed by the provinces. They provide funding for specific programs. Whether it’s healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc. If they decide to cut funding for these things to instead use it as subsidies to help Canadian businesses “stay afloat” (read : earn a little less profits) they can. And the provinces will just have less money to fund everything else.
