You can go on your insurance’s website and find a list of therapists who are in-network for your insurance or just search for therapists on Google. Once you find some, go to their website and read each’s profile. They will talk about their areas of expertise. Once you find one that looks like a match, check on their website or call them to see if they are taking new patients. Once you start working with someone, try them out for about four sessions. If it’s working out, great! If it’s not a match, try finding a different therapist.

I am unemployed, no health insurance. I am getting therapy at a local community health center. They say I can pay whatever I am able. I’ve had multiple sessions. I have not yet been billed.

  • Psychology Today is what you’re looking for. Search your area, what type of therapy your looking for, type of therapist, credentials, etc. You can read a profile and even see a video about them and contact. Also helps with filtering for insurance and the like.
