The difference is that voting for corporate democrats is harm reduction and abstaining is leaving room for the unabashed fascists.

Voting for corporate Democrats is making room for worse fascists in the future, abstaining is forcing corporate Democrats to start representing their constituents

Hey, that doesn’t actually work because they don’t give a shit. You aren’t “teaching the establishment a lesson” because they don’t actually need your vote to enrich themselves. Meanwhile the Overton window steadily slides to the right.

No it doesn’t. You have a two party system which makes things much more complicated.

            1. Corporate dems are payed by their donors to keep the left at bay, if they do it through policy while in power or through playing opposition doesn’t matter that much.
            2. As long as you have only two parties people have nowhere to go, there will not be enough pressure to change the party.
            3. A low voter participation does not lead to systemic change, it leads to even less democracy overall
            4. If you believe democrats would move to the left through less voters than the same would be true for republicans when we elect democrats.
            5. You are not the majority, the voters show us again and again that they will not stand behind progressives in big enough numbers. This does not only go for the US but worldwide.
            6. If you do not vote you still carry blame, Gaza might have looked the same but people wouldn’t get shot in the street by ice. Governtment agencies wouldn’t be reduced to a minimum and so on and so forth. There is real world harm done by republicans right now and if you go back Nixon and reagen did immense damage to the country to this day.

Its just not that easy if your activism is reduced to “not voting” than it is completely meaningless.

you dont align 100% with my views

      The actual reality

You dont align with my views whatsoever, you do the same as the republicans when it comes to immigration enforcement, labor rights, strengthening the police state, worsening climate change; you are at best passive when it comes to protecting the rights of queer people and women, quite often you throw us under the bus, every election you claim you have to be more bigoted whether you win or lose, and you get more reactionary every time I vote for you and you can’t even commit to not be doing blatant genocide, so I won’t vote for you

Also even if your statement was even close to correct, what a filthy fucking way of framing “committing genocide” as some tiny fringe issue.

If the opinion of me and those like me can be dismissed, why are you so obsessed with it? Why do you worry so much?

Missing out on nuance from the guy who outright dismissed someone’s entire argument not via logic but via the political views implied by their Lemmy instance. Riiiight.

That’s a good attempt at a savage little quip, but as someone who can actually write those, I’ll give you some advice. You can’t just say “no u” while alluding to some vague nuance like a teenage girl alludes to her breakup in a Facebook post. You have to actually attack me intellectually, before insulting me intellectually. Kind of like what I did to you, see? For example, your comment would have been more effective if you said something like:

“I can dismiss someone’s opinion without thinking they’re MAGA. Maybe you’ll figure out that nuance eventually”.

See why that’s better? First you attack a weak point in my post, THEN you imply I’m stupid. The way you did it, it looks like you don’t really know how to defend yourself but felt mad enough to try and fail anyways. It is a tricky nuance, but you’ll get there, maybe.

              nuance

Coming from the person who dismissed people based on nothing. Alright. Tell me more about your nuance the next time you get scared you might have a novel thought so you retreat to a childish ad hominem.
