Does this have anything to do with the Trump admin selling all those wild horses taken from federal land to a mysterious buyer who then can’t seem to explain where they go?

Does the article actually say that the US is buying? I skimmed but I didn’t see any mention of the US (beyond measuring in US dollars), although it did mention Belgium being a top buyer. Asking because my Spanish is intermediate at best and it’s entirely possible I missed it

Yes, but not as much as Belgium.

      Translated quote:

Belgium continued to be the main destination of Argentine horse meat. Between January and June it concentrated 47% of the exported volume and 48% of the FOB value, with purchases for US$14.1 million. It was followed by the Netherlands, with 16% of the volume and US$3.97 million, and Japan, with 4% of the volume and US$1.4 million. Together, these three markets accounted for approximately 67% of the tonnes exported and 66% of the value of external sales during the period.

Look man, we just happened to import thousands of tons of cheap, rejected meat from the world’s largest exporter of old horse corpses. Nothing about that is sus. We probably got a great deal on some really quality beef.

The FDA hasn’t analysed or tested it. They haven’t even looked it over. Just eat it! It’s fine!

Eating horse is actually very common across the world… it’s really only places like US, UK, Australia and most of Canada where it’s taboo. I don’t think it’s kosher either.

Honestly I wouldn’t have a problem eating horse, as long as it’s being honestly sold as horse and it is safe.
