Reached Rathalos in Monster Hunter Wilds. The most aggressive monster yet! I was playing with a friend and It was almost dead, but then had an issue with my connection and I dropped. Will have to fight it again. Would be fun to take him on alone, but will probably be a tough fight.

Also, does anyone else thinks that the fighting skills in Monster Hunter helps your fighting skills in soulslike? All that dodge rolls, learning the pattern, then attacking when there’s an opening. They aren’t exactly the same, but feel similar to me.

Reached a point in Final Fantasy XII - The Zodiac Age where it feels like I must be nearing the end, but when I was looking at the guides for jobs, people had divided the game in early game, mid game and late game, and I haven’t reached the point which the defined as the start of late game, so I probably have atleast 1/3rd of the game left.

At this point my gambits are pretty well defined and normal enemies don’t give much of a problem. My character do die some times, but they get revived automatically by the other characters. Things can get dicey sometimes, but overall I am just moving around and letting the characters handle the fight without any input from me.

Reached the next part of the map in Grand Theft Auto IV, and unlocked the next safehouse. Still have a major part of map unexplored so I am probably still somewhere in the start.

Failed couple of missions, and once you do you have to wait a little while before the marker appears again, then you have to go and start the mission from start. There is no quick “retry” or “restart mission” option. That’s my major issue with these older games. I have become used to the modern quality of life features.

Still playing just couple of missions a day (or whenever I play) before moving on to another game. So this will probably take some time.

No Fire Emblem Three Houses this week.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

I started a BotW save file in Master Mode. Just defeated my first boss, in the elephant. It was pretty hard at first because I only had three hearts and just got one-shot, but I left, got some fairies, upgraded some armour, and it wasn’t so bad any more.

Also picked up FFVII remake because it was only £10. I don’t like original FFVII that much (I only played it for the first time a couple of years ago and didn’t complete it), but the remake is more enjoyable in terms of gameplay. And it looks really good. It’s a big game (~90GB), so it took an hour to download, even with a wired connection.

Waiting for the Steam Summer sale to judge my budget and then I wanna buy the new Fire Emblem game.
Bought Smash Ultimate and enjoying that.
Also on a whim I bought the Mario + Rabbids game. Actually a really fun twist on the xcom formula.
Have yet to try StarFox tho, wanted to try it out but I’m already accumulating a backlog >_<

I loved the first Mario + Rabbids game, haven’t tried the second one but it apparently improves the formula further.

Good luck with Steam Summer Sale!

I haven’t played the first one hehe, tbh I haven’t even heard of these games before yesterday. But yeah it seems to just be a straight improvement over the first one. And for 9€ it was a easy impulse purchase.

Picked up the Switch 2 port of Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. I’ve been starving for something new with crossplay. Learning Metera, but I am really struggling to escape the corner. I guess that’s kinda what I sign up for when playing zoners though.

Also been spending many sleepless nights chipping away at Sudokuvania 2: Lineage of Logic. This is my game of the year for 2026, no joke.

I have been playing that Sudokovania for last hour, why did you have to share such a link? Well, technically I am still playing the prologue, haven’t even finished that yet. Thanks for sharing. It feels fun!

Do I need some advanced techniques later on? My most advanced technique is simple X-Wing, which is enough to solve the sudokus on the old book I have.

In theory, anything can be derived from first principles, even if you have to just plug test digits in until you find a contradiction. In practice, good luck - I’m bashing my head against a wall on this latter half. I don’t think pure sudoku techniques necessarily get you that far on their own anyway, the real difficulty comes from all the unique mechanics.

If you’re truly truly stuck, there are walkthroughs on Youtube, I’ve had to resort to getting getting a hint or two or three sometimes.

Or you can try Super Sudokoid: Final Transmission for an easier starting point, I actually solved this one unassisted before moving onto Sudokuvania 2.

I just got the Castlevania Collection on the eShop for an 80% discount. A lot of Castlevania games are discounted just now in celebration of its anniversary, in case anyone’s been waiting for a sale. I usually only buy digital when it’s this cheap! (£ 3.19!). I’ll probably replay some Castlevania titles then. I’m particularly looking forward to replaying Kid Dracula in English!

I’ve also been playing a bit of High on Life on Switch 2. I like the kind of humour, but the game hasn’t hooked me yet.

Well like three houses it has to much to do beside the core gameplay of fire emblem. I end up spending more time doing random stuff than in the tactical battle itself. That’s even more than in three houses i think. On the other end engage or even more older game, you spend a lot more time in battle.

I play all 4 paths parallel. Probably a dumb decision, but i want to choose lot of chars and thought it’s easier to choose who is used in what path. As i wrote it’s better than expected. I’m 80 hours in the game and don’t see getting bored any time soon. When i criticisemy fav franchise, i just have high expectations for something i think, is already good

Still slowly working on Raiders. Honestly picked it up on a whim and never played a Spatoon game before this. It’s absolutely addicting, especially for your someome who loves arpgs. Constantly tweaking a build when new perks unlock and new weapons drop. Yah it’s been great.

I’ve been intentionally trying to level up each tank and by far my favorite is the power. Playing Splatoon with melee has been great.

Next I like the tactical tank. Got some good synergy with cool downs and staying off the ground.

And even speed tank is fun. Dualies and jumping around gadgets is cool.

Jumping gadget is my favourite. Though I did end up maxing all three tanks.

How do you stay off the ground so much? Bot hop? I just didn’t use any of those jumping cooldowns.

    Finished Well Dweller!

Haven’t been in a good mood for gaming but could not pass a new Kyle Thompson release. It’s another short, cute, very polished and clever metroidvania - it’s incredible it was almost entirely done by a single person.

I loved the unique moveset in this game where instead of the usual double-jump the game lets you throw and “stick” your weapon in walls and use it like a springboard, with quite a few interesting plataforming puzzles using this mechanic. Controls are perfect, art and music are fantastic, and the game has excellent pacing. Performance-wise there’s some frame drops on the Switch 1 but they are rare and don’t interfere with gameplay.

Another great thing is how it’s one of those games that respect your time. Equipment to see secret passages? One of the first you’ll find in the game. Fast travel? Unlocks early on and lets you move to any save you’ve found. Stuck or can’t find that one missing item? You can buy hints in your home base. It’s all optional so if you prefer a more old-school experience you can just skip these features, but I love that they are available.

I played and finished Mega Man 2 as a break from Fallout. I was surprised that I can still do Quick Man’s stage rather easily after over 10 years. I couldn’t tell you what to do, but as soon as I got there my muscle memory just KNEW where to go! A lot about the game is very good, but I will never forgive the Room Boss in Wily’s Castle that needs perfect Crash Bomb deployment to prevent a soft lock.

Back in Fallout 3, there are basically three things left for me to do. The Pitt DLC, the Broken Steel story expansion and visiting all remaining major locations. Or whatever the game considers major locations that is. Some of them don’t really deserve a spot on the map to be honest. I’ll be tackling those first!

I didn’t know what to expect but Bleach: Rebirth of Souls actually got me. I’m not really into 3D fighters and I prefer my moves to be classic quarter circle style inputs, but there is a flashiness to the game that got me really hyped. And I’m extremely impressed with Story Mode! I was expecting to be led through the most important battles and be done in a day or two, but this is the first time I’ve seen a game of this kind actually try to tell the story properly! There are hours upon hours of cutscenes and I’m absolutely here for that! It will actually take me weeks to get through Story Mode and that’s insane!

In Monster Hunter GU, I fought Yian Kut Ku and I was very surprised to see him run much faster than he did in Wilds! I assumed the Old World games were more sluggish overall, but that doesn’t seem to apply to the monsters and that worries me a bit! This weekend, I plan to tackle whatever a Nibelsnarf is. It’s a fantastic name, but I’ve never heard of it before. I haven’t decided what I’ll do after him, maybe Iodrome or Daimyo Hermitaur.

I usually don’t talk about my Super Nintendo journey here, but I know at least one person here might be interested to hear that I’ve been playing Super Robot Wars 4 lately, since the fan translation is finally complete after many years. It’s always weird for me to play these, since all my knowledge of Gundam comes from other SNES games and half of those cross over with Kamen Rider and Ultraman so I have a hard time keeping track of what’s what.

Honestly, I found many hundreds of hours of Monster Hunter to be absolutely no help when I played my first Soulslike. I tried to play it like I would MH and got destroyed constantly until I forced myself to forget what I thought I knew and let the game teach me its own way. I just got the new Steam Controller, so I’ve been playing a bunch of games to try to get used to it because I really loved the old model. I don’t know if it’s just a case of needing to get used to the camera movement or if I’m super rusty, but my most recent journey into Wilds was rough. I want to keep playing a little bit now and then to keep my skills up for the upcoming expansion, but I’m still a bit burned out on it. Always happens with this series.

I’ve been replaying Batman. I’m still plodding along with challenge maps for achievements alongside the story modes. Asylum is completely done, City has Robin and Nightwing to go plus most of NG+, Origins I’m partway through the story and it’s still my favourite, haven’t touched challenge maps yet, Knight I only need to do 4 more maps but they’re really tough ones, I’ll probably still be beating my head against them when I finish the Origins story and start this one. I’ve also started a separate replay of the series alongside my normal replay so that my GF can see it all and I can infodump on her the whole time (don’t worry, this arrangement goes both ways, she got me though about 9999 hours of Lord of the Rings movies and cartoons and books first).

We also got through Luca in Final Fantasy X. I won the tournament, she lost. We’re treating this the same way we watch TV series and overanalysing everything as we go, really digging into characterisation and whatnot. For such an old game with relatively primitive models and animations it’s still surprisingly in-depth, there’s a lot going on that I never picked up on in the past.

Replaying Metal Gear Solid V. It still rules.

Finally, the only new thing on this whole list, I am obsessed with janky, kind of shitty business sims because I love watching them grow and being able to interact with the devs, and it’s nice having a small community mostly free of anti-woke bullshit. I’m currently into Car Dealer Simulator. I don’t know if I could really recommend it to normal people, but I’m having a great time.

    Wastelands 2!

If anyone is a fan of the OLD Fallout games, Wasteland was made by some of the OG Fallout designers, and it clearly shows. They lean HEAVY into the jokes and pop culture references.

Fallout 2 is one of my all-time favourite game but I played ATOM RPG a little while ago and didn’t like some of the things, so not sure if I’ll enjoy Wastelands 2.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of ATOM RPG.

I was a little frustrated with learning the controls at first, and couple that with the fact that the ENTIRE premise around the first quest is “You can’t have it all.”, and I wasn’t too sure if I was going to stick with it.

If you go into Wasteland 2 thinking you’re going to do everything right, you’re going to have a bad time. The game punishes you for mashing the “action” button on things without paying attention to what you’re doing.

Once I understood that you just have to accept some losses here and there for the game to continue, it’s Ben a lot of fun. They lean heavily into pop culture references and jokes like they did on Fallout 2.
