Interesting to see Sony commit to what is essentially the classical PS2 style console model, when it’s increasingly looking less viable (rise of indie games, relative increase in PC share, inability to subsidize console devices, decreasing returns on graphical improvement costs).
I wonder why Sony didn’t go through with something like a 4-5 year delay before release on PC (it seems that was their plan). One would assume this would allow them to target two completely different parts of the market.
I am really curious if this decision will be explained (at least at high level) in their financial reporting or perhaps even in interviews.
I am going to presume/guess that pc gamers just weren’t all the enthusiastic about paying full price for the games 3 years after release.
I know I am still waiting for Spiderman 2 to drop to a price I am willing to pay, and the longer it takes the lower that becomes.
This is what lack of competition looks like.
Well, if they make anything good I can always just emulate it for free a few years later! I still have a shitload of other older consoles I can emulate and haven’t played yet, plus my actual PC game library of thousands of games, so I should be able to occupy myself for quite a while.
Capitalism really is a drug that causes brain damage like all the rest.
and nothing of value will be lost. cya sony.
Indie games go brrrrrrr
When Sony releases it’s next Playstation for cost $1000 it will fail miserably.
PC was it’s savings grace.
