Unnecessarily negative article, with factual errors even. Feels like the author has an axe to grind.

Speaking of: “We don’t have a definite date for implementing these changes and are still tuning the details, but we wanted to set expectations. We don’t believe this will be perfect right away, but we are confident the new system will result in better outcomes for customers and developers and are eager to share all the details once we have them.” Here’s hoping the lack of perfection won’t screw up any smaller developer’s days.

Oh, would you prefer Steam declare their changes perfect before they’ve even been released, and refuse to accept any feedback?

Underneath the ad banner for whoever paid to be there for that day

    Steam doesn’t sell advertising, dumbass.

Seems that the word Algorithm now has a negative connotation and people have a knee jerk reaction to it.

I get where she’s coming from, but bottom line Valve is (has always been) a business, and they will maximize selling.

The author fears indies will get smothered by the bigger studio ads, as typically happens, but funny enough lately I’ve been exposed to quite a few more Indy games I had no idea where popping up during the week with the new setup.

So Valve gets my attention, even more than I care to admit, and I see more independent games. I’m good with it.

Valve literally just put out a calendar that goes on the front page and highlights indie games.

I just took a look at the store page and I see tons of games that look interesting to me that I had never heard of before.

My memory of the previous steam store was that it would be the same AAA games and popular indie titles over and over. Stuff that I had heard of and didn’t want to play, or stuff that was already on my wishlist. I would generally find out about new games from outside of steam.

So this seems like a really good improvement, and I love the personal release calendar too. This looks like a really good way to surface games that may otherwise have gone unnoticed.
