“Potentially record-breaking heat leading to severe droughts and bushfires, punctuated by volatile storms.”
Oh, just a normal summer, then.
Rare?
Lucky we built all those data centres that drain fucking insane amounts of fresh water.
Guaranteed the local, state, and federal government will protect their access to water and tell us plebs to have short showers again.
don’t they only take up a tiny % of overall water usage?
According to Sydney Water, the data centres located in Macquarie Park could use up to 30 megalitres per day within a decade — which represents about 2 per cent of the entire city’s current daily drinking water demand.
I was recently listening to a Nate Soares interview, where he mentioned data centres don’t use much water, but they do use a lot of electricity.
100% and I’m very very happy we are pushing them to bring their own renewables:
In addition to bringing their own clean energy or storage to offset demand on the grid, operators will be expected to cover the full share of power connection costs and support network stability.
Energy Minister Chris Bowen said it was important to get the investment settings right to keep the electricity system secure and prices low.
“Data centres have great potential to support our grid and expand new renewable investment,” he said.
tbh sadly I wish they were building more in Adelaide, poor South Australia has the wildest fluctuating power prices in part because they have no real underlying industrial demand to help smooth things out, so power demand goes through the roof on hot days when everyone turns on their aircons and then through the floor on mild days with lots of sun when everyones solar is dumping into the grid at max
Gentlemen, start your aircons!
