Is having a lot of posts in a community preferable to asking that people expand on their posts a bit more or put more effort then simply adding a title. For some reason i keep asking myself this when looking at certain communities with seemingly only one poster (on a completely separate and totally unrelated topic I’m going to go shred some dairy products)
Quality over quantity
Yesh
You have a pretty low count of posts and comments and you’ve been here 2 months, best to focus on providing value and asking non-meta actually interesting stuff. Its honestly infuriating people feel like its their place to orchestrate or critic this place or other users, especially when they are as fresh to this commnity or not much more engaged tham yourself
Its super easy to not do what you’ve described and fallen into: post something interesting each day or at least comment something insightful, empathetic, funny, or something of genuine engagement and dont worry about “quality”, often just being a decent, normal, human is resonant and engaging enough
It was a tongue in cheek remark. I’m not trying to moderate/police anything. Check my wording I just asked what people prefer. You can actually take this post and frame it to any community. The last comment was a playful way of making it a bit relevant to this subreddit too. I thought by your posts and comments you wouldn’t take this too seriously as your posts and comments didn’t seem too serious. I’m sorry if this hurt or upset you in some way. I also didn’t say “tOo MuCh SpAm/CoNtEnT”. Please give it a reread. I only really asked “quantity or quality”
Genuinely, how are you qualified to talk about either, tho? Do you have a dial that you can toggle your abillity to optimize for quality or quantity and you need to know the exact setting beforehand or you’ll explode?
How am i qualified to ask “Quality vs Quantity”? of posts to a community? I wasn’t aware I needed qualifications to ask (Never mind the literal title of this community 😀 ). as to how do I “toggle” between the two i would assume it is community dependant but simply posting a link or throwing out a title and giving no background or not expanding in the post to post more might be optimizing for quantity vs the opposite of expanding on the topic/link in the post might be quality.
and you need to know the exact setting beforehand or you’ll explode?
I’m not nearly as emotionally tied to this as you seem to be insinuating. It was an ask on preferences but once again depending on the community context or “setting” could be important if there is an expected response (say an answer to a place you pose questions, or a review of a product if there was something wrong with it, etc.)
I’ll repeat again that I’m sorry if this hurt or upset you in some way. It was not my intention to cause any strife with this post.
Its something people genuinely shouldnt worry about, how about just post normal stuff and engage with your responders and have some fun? No defensiveness or meta treatises needed
Lets start…now
this is actually an answer i can see as an option. might be hard for me to not analyze posts as quality vs quantity but maybe not all people do.
I try not to engage with posts that are just links or pictures. When I came to the fediverse I sorta raised my standards and I expect interaction. That includes people saying why they felt the need to post something. Like its something they are very interested in or found funny or whatever. That being said I break my rule about it to often. I want internet interactions to be much more in person and I often compare the dropping a link to a friend shoving a magazine in my face (which I mean could happen usually when they were like at the stage of excitement where they can’t even talk or are talking concurrently) as opposed to be like. Oh you know I read this article and it was really neat and such and such. I have it over hear would you like to read it?
