I haven’t had a TV in my bedroom in over 20 years. I had an ex who always wanted it on all the time, even to sleep to, and it drove me crazy.
Over 20 years ago I read Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television. It effected me enough that I haven’t owned a television since.
DVDs and FreeTube though… Plus more time for books, music, making, writing.

One of the few things we agree on with my spouse is not having a TV in the bedroom. The TV in the living room and our PCs are enough, the bedroom is for sleeping.
Bruh, what? You disagree on most points?
Some of us got less lucky than others…
Yes because there’s 5 different people not counting a baby that all have different interests in my house. The only time we really come together to watch TV is for sports.
So you just sit in different rooms watching different things alone?
Not getting along kinda helps but for the most part yeah.
I would actually prefer that 90% of the time. I hate having to watch TV with someone else, I either miss what’s on it or feel awkward when I have to rewind, then people have this warped perception that I care what they are trying to tell me as if it’s not obvious I’m watching something on the TV so my focus is elsewhere.
My usage of a TV in the common room is when I’m feeling social or want to have whitenoise, any serious watching is strictly in my den or bedroom

Where is “here”?
I think the better question and the one that would get more yes or no answers is do you have any screens in your bedroom? Not necessarily televisions.
I think significantly more people watch their phones in bed than they do large TVs.
I had a TV in the bedroom, but removing it was one of the best choices I made. I liked the idea of creating TV-free spaces so much that I moved the TV out of the living room too. The living room is a social space, the TV room is a dedicated room to watch the TV. There is no context where “the TV is just on”.
I have a TV in both my living room and my room. I haven’t used either in months, but I sometimes use it. My roommate uses the living room one a few times a month but uses the one in her room a lot.
My entertainment choices vary and currently it’s covered by my tablet and pc, but I’ll use the TV again when I want to play on switch or steamdeck(some games I prefer the deck).
IMO the tablet is just a physically closer portable TV…
My husband and I don’t have a TV in our bedroom. We’ll go to bed at different times, and a TV going is just too much light and noise. If one of us wants to fall asleep to a TV show, there’s a very comfortable couch in the living room.
I think it might be different if we had kids. In that case, having a TV in the bedroom can be useful, in case you want to watch something kids aren’t old enough for yet. But it’s just the two of us, so we keep a TV out of the bedroom. The bedroom is for sleeping and other activities.
If my Do-It-All-Room counts:

(Greetings from my breakfast table lol.)Assuming I had an apartment with 2-3 rooms (meaning a hobby and/or living room + bedroom) I would probably only put one in the bedroom as a spare TV.
But I would not buy a new one just to watch more screens. No, I don’t have a TV in my bedroom.
Why does me having a living room have any bearing on that?
If you’re in a studio apartment, you don’t really have a separate room for sleeping, so you likely have a tv visible from bed. If you move up to a 1 or 2 bed apartment, now you have a a living room, and a tv visible from bed is a choice. Guessing OP recently upgraded their living situation and is seeing how others do it.
Some people live in Studio Apartments or in Bedsits, where it’s either having a TV in the bedroom-kitchen-living room or having no TV, no middle option.
Hence why OP stated that
I still don’t really get it. I don’t have a TV at all, so it doesn’t matter how many other rooms I have.
I took a protip from that CGP Grey video “Spaceship You” and so my bedroom is only used for 3 things;
- sex
- sleep
- naps
Always. I watch something before I go to sleep. It’s a routine. Whether it was a free TV or a nice LED tv, I always had something in my room.
My apartment has two rooms. One is a storage room, the other is the living room/bedroom. TV (a computer monitor hooked up to a PlayStation 4 for YouTube) is right in front of the pile of blankets and pillows where I sleep, and is on 24/7.
We just moved into a townhouse and bought a new, bigger tv, so at least for now the old tv is in the bedroom.
I’m normally against TVs on the bedroom but I’m not minding this so far - but if my fiance depression-nests in the bedroom I’ll sell the tv.
Maybe give some money to the poor before buying a second TV. Otherwise, a Sherpa might poison you for your hubris.
