I know a very sexual straight girl who LOVES pornographic material between two men. She reads something called “boys’ love” or “yaoi” manga. I could never get into it and she got mad at me for that a bit, but it just wasn’t my thing. I much prefer non-sexual, yet romantic content, and while I like romantic content between two men, I prefer it with two women (as a lesbian).

I’ve seen a lot of people, especially men who like yaoi (or don’t like it!) get mad at the fact that women like it so much. My partner likes it a lot and he is a nonbinary masc person, and he said it was sort of gatekeeping to say that straight women/women can’t be fans of yaoi.

But why do they think that? What’s wrong with straight women liking gay men? Is it just a fetish thing when it’s not a queer person, especially a queer guy?
