Kinda? I wrote a short film that was produced and acted by “real” professionals five years ago, so I have an IMDb. I’m currently working on a documentary film along with my best friend, a photojournalist who has served as camera operator and producer on a number of prior docs.

Trying to! Right now I’m still just busy with working corporate stuff/real estate to earn my living and working on short films and a little bit of studio work on the side (DoP). This year is the year I update all my stuff and give it a good push though, starting to have enough experience, the tricky thing is I live in a country with a small-ish industry and I also don’t speak the language at native level to work in the local TV, but I can drive/fly to other nearby countries where I do and we might move there eventually as well.
Hell yeah dude that’s awesome. Europe? They have a lot of productions shooting over there right now.
Yeah, Europe, I’m based in the Netherlands but I’m French and most of my short film stuff happens there and my paid stuff here. Probably gonna try hitting UK productions as well since I know they shoot in the continent a lot and like to have EU citizens for that.

I’m in the stunts/action world, so everything from action acting (actors who can do their own stunts) to action design, some action camera operating (not union for this but learning), limited stunt rigging, etc.
It’s pretty fun! I also do some writing/development work on the side still as I moved out to LA for that and still have people hit me up to do rewrites or build decks and stuff.
Ah fun! My latest and greatest short the director is also coming from the stunt world and debuting as director, y’all are a fun crowd ;) I definitely wouldn’t mind doing more action stuff. I love working with the French but it’s all slow drama 🤣

I am in film/television (non-streaming), but I’m in the adult/XXX realm. And to be 100% clear, I have nothing to do with the performers. I could not be further from the “action”. I’m a “grunt” way, way after the fact.
I’m willing to answer questions, but keep them quasi-civil, ya know?
Editing? In a larger or smaller company?
A small VOD company. We licence our titles complete form other studios; however, occasional editing may be needed to meet broadcast standards. That happens long before I get involved.
Post production?
I had a small role in the new Superman movie but got alot of connections because I stayed on set so much afterwards just to see the process I can give you the janitors name or even the kraft food table person (yes the Kraft Food Table actually exists, I just thought it a trope) I could apply for my SAG card but never did never found the point.

I think I pissed off Dave by fangirling over the suit and treating it as like the Holy Grail. I grew on Reeves Superman and that was the first movie my parents took me to. I am super no pun intended lucky they did. Even now when that music hits I am transported. But Dave and I are decent friends but I think I was his first fan girling experience. But I kept pissing off Jim, not on purpose, I was just in awe of a whole world they created. Think of it this way. If you watched Charlie and The Chocolate Factory when you were a kid, some small part of the movie left an imprint on you about candy. Haha no such thing as too much fangirling in this business man. Everyone feels that way about what we’re doing, just be excited. I’m fortunate enough to train at one of the bigger action production companies all the time, and when you see people that are names recognize you and say hi and shit, that’s cool.
Remember that scene in Capt: First Avenger after that woman almost touches Steve? Thats how I was. But it was also the worst experience when you see a person actually “fly” takes the imagination out of it and no music playing. But I grew up on Superheroes and still at my age, I like to think they do exist we just don’t hear about them. If and thats a big If I ever have a child, I want him or her to grow up knowing Superheroes exist. That way they will go up to a fireman and fan girl or boy out. Or A nurse, doctor, police man and so forth. Funny thing is. I got to watch him put on the cape for the first time. And when he entered the room everyone just stopped and looked almost in disbelief. Oh I went so far as smelling the cape and suit. And it smells like a brand new car smell.

I was in the background of some films if that counts. really just one because the other the stunt messed up and they did not use the footage.
I’d like trying my hand as an extra sometime, just for fun. How is it ?
Working as background is tiresome and thankless. You’re a prop that needs food and watered. That being said, it’s a great way to break into the business because you can see how films are made and see which jobs appeal to you.
This may not be the place to ask, but how did you even break into the industry?

yea, different worlds… stunt work sounds extremely cool, though. At least from the outside. Probably more dangerous too, although I suppose modern stunt work must be vastly safer than it used to be
I’ve not been hurt on set but I’ve been hurt a fuck ton training.
I’ve had my foot dislocated, toes dislocated, broken my nose a few times, fucked up my elbow really bad recently and was down for a few months… It’s rough. But a lot of that is having to deal with people who’re not treating my safety as important as their safety.
Do you mean other stuntpeople ?
And how does one dislocate toes ? barefoot reception/landing ? don’t you have special gear like stuntsocks, or is that just my fantasy
Yeah training with other stunt people. A guy on my stunt team did a takedown where he trapped my foot, and in doing so the only way it could move caused me to get really messed up. He should never have done such a thing and I think he did it on purpose. That does unfortunately happen with some people as they’re sociopaths.
Most of the training I do is barefoot as we’re on martial arts mats. I have a pair of shoes I wear for ‘public’ gym stunt training which prevents this, but when you’re in a private team environment you don’t expect that kind of stuff.
Are you French (going from the instance)?
Not gonna lie it’s rare I need 3D work and for the small things I need here and there I have some basic skills to get it done in blender, but if you send me your info I’ll add you to my network list and might call you up sometime!
Not anymore, but I’ve spent my fair share of Fraturdays wondering when the hell things would wrap.
Ahh what did you do back in the day?
Last thing I worked on was Mindhunter. Without getting too specific I was on the more logistical side of things.
I did a decade in local TV, then worked a few years at a company that made production equipment that I’d guess anyone who works around camera, DIT, director, producer, etc. would know. Relatively small company so I don’t want to risk identifying myself by naming it. I’m out entirely now, though. Not even running cameras for pledge drives at the local PBS station because they stopped producing them that way.

Do you guys also love watching movies? I ask this question because I’ve played football with players who enjoy playing the sport but have zero interest in watching it. I wonder if it could be the same for some people working in the film industry, where they love the process of creation but don’t have as much interest in watching as an audience member.
I know some guys who don’t really watch films on the G&E side or the gaffer side of things. Most people in the creative depts like wardrobe, hair and makeup, and the camera/sound guys all love movies. I can only speak for myself though, and I love going to the movies and watching stuff.
