Maybe he would be more popular if he used his money and influence to create a better world. Say what you want about Gates, but that foundation of him and his wife saved tens of millions of lifes. It seems like Musk isn’t even trying to create the illusion of using his money for the benefit of society.

I have a lot to say about Gates. He realized that he was an evil POS and decided to create his own foundation to push his own views on various things around the world. His work had some positive effects, some negative effects, and if he actually valued human life, he would have campaigned to raise taxes on the ultra-rich or paid his workers more.

Let’s not pretend Bill has much humanity in him. He’s almost as bad as Elon. That’s better than nothing, for sure.

I’m not going to try to defend his more heinous actions, neither the ones early in his career nor the ones that came later in life, but it did truly feel like their foundation and what they did with it was more of a “we have the time and the money so why not do something positive and get good PR at the same time?” kind of thing.

He’s certainly saved more lives than Musk, Thiel, Altman et al. have, put together. By far.

I still find it funny that he actually thought he could get drumpf to do something altruistic, though. That shit was both funny and sad at the same time.

His foundation pushed back against covid vaccines being open so poorer countries could afford them because he insists that someone needs to profit from shit his foundation does. It was like a continuation of his opposition to open source software (that he leaned on to develop the things that made Microsoft and then immediately hated because they were still free for others when he wanted to pull the ladder up). His foundation also tends to dominate charities it deals with because the surge of money makes them expand and then they can’t afford to lose it.

          Mixed bag.

A mixed bag is still better than the other sacks of shit, but I’m not going to waste any more time trying to defend him than this either. He’s still a piece of shit.
