Wow! Who told him to put on such patronising company PR voice. You’re not trying to sell a fuckin concept to the country mate, your meant to be levelling with the country about the seriousness of the crisis. Speaking to everyone like they’re children won’t help, even of the opposition have been actinglike a bunch of turkeys over this all day.

He’s always been like this. You can hear it whenever he has to answer questions he doesn’t like. Always sounds like “I’m the boss, don’t bother me”.

I don’t know why he does it either, because he is actually capable of speaking like a normal human as evidenced by some of the pre-election podcast type stuff he did. He can come across as relatable and even funny, yet for whatever reason he or his media handlers have decided a better strategy would be for Australia to think he’s a knob.

He gained a lot of social capital in opposition by coming across as a humanist with his childhood story, and campaigning for increasing social welfare payments. Now he seems like the archetypal “boomer” who got what they needed and pulled up the ladder. (I know not all boomers are like this, but we’ve all met one of them).

I fucking hate his “single mum in public housing” story so much. He’s 63 and prime minister, it ceased being relevant decades ago. Having a poor parent is also very different to being poor as an adult, as anyone who has been in both situations knows. Constantly bringing up it up to try to appear empathetic to the poor adults of today just makes him look clueless, especially when he continuously fails to back it up with anything of substance. The only people who think it holds any weight are middle-class Labor diehards who don’t have any lived experience of this and therefore believe the childhood sob story makes him some kind of perfect centre-left politician.

Yeah I hear ya. It’s insulting. There are a lot of people that don’t understand that upwards social mobility is gone now. It’s all about family wealth and support now. More people will understand this as time goes on.

That was a very disappointing 5 minute brief of what was essentially 'it ‘s gonna get worse, but she be right, don’t be a cunt’
The sentiment is nice but I’d have preferred a plan to get us out of this mess.

There’s been a noticeable increase in traffic around inner Brisbane since school started this year. I heard from a colleague that it was because a lot of work from home contacts had expired and many people were being forced back into the office.

Surely, encouraging anyone that can work from home to do so would help save some fuel for those that have no choice. And with less traffic, those that do have to drive will also be using less fuel.

Reducing the fuel excise temporarily is short-sighted and won’t matter if we run out.

He’ll be announcing his plan to act on his mandate of heaven, seize the imperial capital of Beijing and proclaim himself Emperor of china. I know it like I’ve known nothing before.

I have been saying for the last week or two I expect fuel restrictions to come in after the Easter weekend. Not before, because that would go down like a lead balloon. But this portends my prediction, I reckon.

    Ask first.

Then waggle the finger and say “I asked nicely, but you are not making a smart choice, so daddy has to be mean now”.

It’s definitely sounding like we’re ending up there sooner rather than later. They are likely very hesitant to announce any kind of restrictions because many Australians are still sensitive over COVID and it creates another wedge issue for the Coalition and One Nation. I have zero faith in either of those political groups, particularly with the Liberals now being led by Angus Taylor, to actually do the right thing by the nation and support the government in its efforts managing the crisis.

One of the most depressing things about COVID was learning how selfish most Australians are. Forget everything we like to pretend about community spirit and mateship and all that. People were acting like having a bit of fabric over their mouth was oppression, and taking a month off going to the pub was apparently unbearable.

He is expected to urge Australians to save fuel for areas and industries that “most need it”.

I suppose you have to try but I’m not really sure this does much. Most people will claim their use case is justified, and even if deep down they know it isn’t they’ll still come up with some whataboutism to defend it. Australians do not have the existing cultural mindset required to stop driving everywhere and for everything overnight.

    • This morning the Graham farmer free way in Perth was as clogged as ever with people who will claim they are justified and there is no alternative.

I witnessed this from the bike path that runs adjacent before anyone comes at me. I was hardly riding quickly and I was moving faster than the climate change deniers.

My office building’s basement car park still full of gigantic child fucker mobiles that middle managers claim they need to drive in to the city to work at their desk.

Yeah good luck with anyone thinking of anyone but them self.

I used to ride along there when I lived in Maylands riding across to Welshpool. Its nice down by the river. I’s never fit enough to do it everyday though. Got to twice a week on the regular until I moved. I miss that ride.

        • I used to live in maylands and ride along the river to the city. That is one of the nicest commutes in Perth as you are so far from cars. South of the river now but still a fairly good ride.

Worst bit is still the middle of the CBD. Always feel like you are dicing with death because Phil from accounting needs to drive his bull barred dual cab to his office job.

But you don’t understand Phil from bloody accounting’s footy training oval has a gravel carpark, so he needs a big car. /s

Riding into Welshpool was sometimes pure fear. Few to no paths, sharing roads with trucks and road trains. Got to within a foot of one once, rode side by side, wasn’t my smartest moment on a bike.

In Queensland, they’re about to pass laws that means that if you were riding an ebike, you’d have to be on the road with them, or failing that, limited to 10km/h. Oh, and you’d need a drivers license
