Been using Linux fulltime since the Win10 licensing servers were taken offline and I had a fustercluck situation with recovery. It’s been perfect, and a lot faster: 90%+ via Steam means no effort, and the rest through Heroic Launcher (and before that Lutris).
Unless you’re a fan of one of the very few games with anticheat that actively blocks Linux (Tarkov? etc), there is a way.

I’m not familiar with what’s been said or done regarding bots, but I’d be surprised if they were planning to shutdown the self-hosting part? But I can see how they might shutdown the free cloud auth aspect.
As RD consists of the server/client software and the authentication software, the latter is also made available online to all with no reliability promises. But there’s nothing stopping people from hosting both parts locally, and is how I implemented it. No traffic to third parties, etc.
Can’t advise on domain-based setup, as I’ve not tried it, but depending on how you’re planning to use it, there may be no need for a domain. I only used mine locally (or via WireGuard when outside), with hbbr and hbbs hosted in Docker on my NAS, and it worked fine with my mobile devices and PCs.

FWIW, I switched to self-hosted GitLab in Docker when Microslop borged GitHub and found it to be resource hungry and slow. Seems like it’s just a wrapper around their unoptimised, monolithic, warts-and-all enterprise product with a few flags changed.
And it’s entirely dependent on the ongoing goodwill (and competence) of GitLab, ie. subject to “we’ve altered the deal; pray we don’t alter it any further”.
Migrated it to a Gitea container soon after, which is light and fast. If I was making the same decision today, I’d switch to Forgejo, but that’s more of an ideological position than technical or UX one versus Gitea.
It’s almost like people see “don’t comply in advance” and think that it means “except for me!” or it will somehow benefit them if they do it anyway.
The latter, presumably, being the reason people love licking boots, boosting wealth hoarders, voting against their interests, etc. They’ll get some crumbs from the table if they do it hard enough, surely.

“Photo Metadata Remover” by Syrupy on the Play Store was the tool recommended by the security team at a previous workplace. I rarely need it, but I see it’s added ads, so I’d be more tempted to check for a FOSS alternative.
There’s always ImageMagick on PC, if you don’t mind dealing with them there. It strips EXIF and Adobe metadata from images very well. Or the old “screenshot of a digital photo” trick is still peerless.
I’ve been using Wallabag for years, after leaving Pocket, then just sharing links between devices using browser bookmarks or sync, and trying another solution that was shiny but lacking (can’t recall the name).
Wallabag has extensions for most browsers, apps for iOS and Android (that hook into the “Share with…” functionality), and runs in a low-resource Docker container. The web UI isn’t pretty, but it’s functional.
I have SWAG+Authelia (another Docker stack) and Cloudflare sitting in front of it, so has all the SSL and MFA needed.
