Linux@lemmy.ml•I'm planning to build a Linux gaming PC. Any suggestions?
0·17 days agoI tried out Bazzite with an Nvidia 40-series card last year and performance was the same as Windows for everything I tested
All things being equal I would go with AMD too, but if I was OP I certainly wouldn’t turn down a good deal on an Nvidia card if one presented itself.

0·1 month agoTo be fair, the list was made for the 57th anniversary of Trek three years ago.

0·1 month agoData’s Day is the episode I usually recommend people use to introduce TNG to newbies since Data literally goes around and introduces the crew. I’m shocked it wasn’t on Variety’s list!

Absolutely Amazing work here. Tesseract should strongly be considered as a default UX.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Which instances have the most ban-happy moderators? Analysis insideEnglish
0·4 months agoI think the current methodology skews the data; consider that an instance federated with say, Hexbear, is probably going to have significantly more individual and community bans than an instance who only made 5-6 bans before recognizing the pattern and blocking the instance.
If the goal of this study is to see which places most aggressively moderate their content, you’re actually getting somewhat of the reverse.

0·4 months agoVery interesting stuff! Defederations should count as a ban of all instance users, imo.

Feddit UK@feddit.uk•Does Feddit.uk have a position on Lemmy.World defederating instances over a single user?
0·4 months agoWhy do you say that? They hold no power over us, nor us over them. They can’t control what we choose to store on our own hard drives.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Is Star Trek Discovery that bad?English
0·11 months ago• Nihilistic, apocalyptic future
Do you have any examples of the Nihilism? I’m struggling to think of any… In fact Season 3 was about maintaining optimism and faith in the strength of the Federation against unbelievable odds.
• Bad guys that are just bad, they’re evil, don’t ask questions
Khan, Gul Dukat and the Clown from Voyager were all in Discovery?
• One principal star of the show that is the focus of nearly every episode
I agree that there was a main character, but I also enjoy a lot of media with a main character so I don’t see that as a bad thing.
• No attempt to explain things with any veneer of science
I suggest you avoid watching TNG and TOS because they do the same thing!

The events of Star Trek haven’t taken place yet, but The Historical Documents aired long before that. Presumably some kind of time vortex brought them to us.
