Oh, got it. Somebody gave me the tip to preload my Steam wallet, so that made it smooth sailing for me.

Yep Valve opened the sales a couple mins early so I had my order complete already when 10 AM PST rolled over. They seemed pretty reliably available for at least 30 mins after that, at least whenever I refreshed.

I’m not sure what steps are necessary but I have my payment info saved in Steam. It’s not one-click (I still have to review and confirm) but it’s a pretty fast process Edit: I’m in the US if that matters.
Perhaps more importantly I heard someone claim that payment processors (Visa, Mastercard, etc) can slow things down or even bottleneck the checkout as they verify. Supposedly you can get around that by putting funds into your Steam wallet in advance. I really want a controller ASAP and there’s kinda no downside for me (I’ll probably spend the money this year regardless) so I did that.

Kerbal Space Program had a super nice community. Well, until KSP2’s cancellation, that brought a ton of haters seemingly out of nowhere. Fortunately I think that’s blown over and all the kind and creative people are moving over to Kitten Space Agency, which seems like a way better project.

I’d be quite happy if there was like a more general math-rock community.

King Gizzard is absurdly prolific so I’m not sure it’s entirely fair to compare other bands to them lol
But yeah they were certainly my first thought for the ‘microtonal rock’ inspiration. But there were others like Secret Chiefs 3 experimenting with this stuff even back in the 90s.

Dumb question, but do I have to be on lemmy.ca to post in the new community?

Yesss. I had this thought and you beat me to it. Thanks!
Yep, every electric device is a toaster, some are just super inefficient at it.

The game engine itself was by far the most dangerous thing in hardcore mode 😆 But I got lucky and finished it too and it was a hell of a rush. More about caution and planning than mechanical skill like a lot of games.

Subnautica helped me vanquish (control, really) my thalassophobia
Me too… in video games lol. Real water can be like a thousand times more murky, and wreckage can be full of dangerous rust and things to get your equipment tangled on 😞
But anyway yeah it became one of my very favorite games and I even beat it on hardcore mode. The cyclops only tried to yeet my character once or twice lol
Haha, thanks amigo 👍
That’s one hell of a quote. Thanks for the reminder of what a great thinker Clemens was.

I don’t know. I think logic and reason (L&R) were intended to make up for our shortcomings. Our minds don’t write down facts, they remember in hazy patterns. L&R were first codified by Descartes (to my knowledge) but used in practice back to the ancient Sumerian engineers if not further. I think the fact that they have been wildly successful despite not being universally adopted just indicates how fundamentally different they are than the naturally workings of the wet brain hardware we evolved across aeons for survival and basic propagation. And while it’s certainly no end unto itself, of course it’s not hard to imagine the additional progress that would come from broader acceptance and application of L&R and the scientific process.
So yeah I wouldn’t call it a hacky patch; there’s genuine value in concrete and self-consistent philosophy. But we have to wrestle against our nature to embrace it.

I had a former co-worker who was a big DevOps nerd and he mined about 50 BTC just for fun back in its very early days. And then a few years later was kicking himself for basically throwing it away ordering pizzas in Cali for 5 coins apiece.

This is a fun premise that is completely ruined for me by the fact that it’s kind of intrinsically an ad for cryptocurrency
Like the Superbowl?

Anything like Sankthans (Midsommer) in Norway?
How am I supposed to eat a baby that’s either indestructible or full of buckshot?
