California is a shockingly purple state, tbh. The cities just happen to high enough density to outweigh the rest. Once you leave them, things get really red really quick. It’s basically like Texas, just favouring the other side.

I wasn’t arguing, I was trying to have a discussion. I’ve already told you that I have no desire to police your speech and you just completely ignored me. You’ve angrily built up a crazy strawman argument just to tear it down despite the fact I’m not saying any of the things you seem to think that I am. You don’t even care to try to see anything from someone else’s perspective. Talk about empathy. I’ve shared that I see your point, and agree with it on many levels. You’re a brick wall. Please learn to communicate. Sheesh.

You’re literally having an emotional crash out and there’s no talking with you. You’re projecting your preconceived notions onto me while ignoring anything I say. So I repeat, I hope your day gets better.

I hope your day gets better.

What an amazing non-sequitur. Goodbye.

Oh god. And to think you stopped reading at the word “ableism” lmao

Do you know what “ableism” means? Like, have you ever stopped to think about it? Can you define it?

It’s not about logic. It’s about you waking up the fact you don’t get to dictate how other people live their lives or how they speak, and your need to do that is nothing more than a power-tripping projection.
Oh dude, I grew up on 4chan. I don’t personally give a single crap how you talk, I’m just saying why it is how it is. I have no desire to control your speech whatsoever.
That’s why this type of identity political nonsense pisses most people off
Pretty sure most people understand the reasoning and move on with their lives.
Anyway, I’m gonna leave you with this and dip now.

Using ageist terminology in quoting a dated joke is more than just “tone.” Everyone should feel welcome on Lemmy, including people with intellectual disability. That type of language marginalizes such people and has moved into being unacceptable. This isn’t stamping out diversity, it’s protecting it.
The logic here is pretty clear, it isn’t just someone randomly playing weird linguistic police. I totally get where you’re coming from, and I agree with you in principle, but I also feel like this particular case is just not the hill to die on.

Is that my dog?

I get that it’s a quote, one that many people find funny, but it is also rooted in ableism and hasn’t exactly aged super well. It’s not like your comment was removed for “wrongthink,” it was removed for violating a social norm that has evolved since that movie came out. Just my two cents. 🤷♀️

Almost exactly the same here. I technically still have my old windows install as a VM, but it’s broken and has been for months because I’m too lazy to update one little script that would take 5 seconds, because who cares, I ain’t using it.
I don’t use Arch, btw. But I use EndeavourOS!

While I agree that the blind pursuit of capital will ultimately be our downfall, but helium shortages actually have real, tangible effects on the very people you seem to vouch for.
I feel you’re lashing out for the mere sake of lashing out, regardless of who your target is. We’re on the same side here.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I still get random cravings and it’s been years for me as well. I doubt they’ll ever go away. That said though, every time I tried to quit, it was those first two weeks that were hell every time, so four weeks is a big deal IMO

You asked:
So, really, what’s the actual fucking problem here?
That’s what they heard.
They answered:
No more medical imaging.
No more fibre optics.
No more semiconductors.
No more laparoscopic or eye surgery.
No more hard drives.
No more titanium.
No more rockets.
That’s what you didn’t hear I guess.

Dude congrats!! You’re past the worst of it, in my opinion. If you relapse, you relapse, but now you know what you’re capable of. You got this!

I’d completely forgotten about it, but immediately “saw” it again when I read your comment :(. Yay shared trauma, lol…

Ugh. I know the exact gif you’re talking about…
For sure, people just seem to think if someone’s from California, they must be a bleeding heart liberal, when that’s very much not the case.
