If we’re talking the US, it’s routine for municipalities to effectively ban homelessness. The penalties are usually a visit to jail & fines. Yes, fines, for people who can’t afford homes. The supreme court also recently ruled that municipalities can do this even if there’s not enough shelter space for them. It’s not really an exaggeration to say that US attitudes & policies towards homeless people are genocidal.

I’m in the same camp. I have home servers that run linux and it works great there, but on the desktop I’ve run into a surprising amount of stability issues. It’s honestly worse than it was 20 years ago in that regard.

Also FYI: if you are getting enough calories, you are almost certainly also getting enough protein. The RDA for protein is quite low, 0.8g per kg bodyweight, or about 10% of your caloric intake. You can meet this by eating just grains. However, as mentioned in the linked source, the RDA is intended to prevent nutrient deficiencies, not provide an optimal level of intake.
