  • It works exactly the same way ambulance access to pedestrian malls and shared zones works.

They don’t drive through at 60mph lights and sirens and “get the hell out of my way” attitude.

This is the UK not the US.

They can drive quickly up to the restricted zone, then they’re progressing at 5 to 10mph with the passenger watching for inattentive pedestrians.

Before the howl of outrage this is short distances in a high density city. The difference in travel time by slowing down for the last mile is a minute or two. Time that could just as easily be lost by inattentive drivers not moving out of the way en route.

  • Lol. Do you really think only govts can track you via your phone ? Both the phone OS providers and the telcos can readily do so, and additionally many apps ask for access that allows them to do so if you’re not careful. Refer the jogging app that compromised military security in Afghanistan & the middle east for example.

That doesn’t make the flock cameras irrelevant though. It takes an additional step because a) you can’t opt out of number plate tracking and b) it’s facial recognition as well as anpr into a central tracking database.

  • It’s a good explanation and would be logical if the council were acting in good faith, however the primary driver here is to reduce the number of people who are able to patronise these pubs and thus put them out of business.

A table and 4 chairs takes about the same space as a dozen people standing, and most of these pubs are on comparatively thin margins. Reduce the turnover by that much and they’re out of business. Which is what this residents group wants.

They’re pushing a lot of other restrictions not just the no standing, closing pubs at 10pm on weekends is clearly intended to make them less attractive to potential patrons for example

  • Unlikely, he’s been running it a loss for years now, propped up by his money, his billionaire mates’ money and some launch contracts in addition to Starlink.

This is the reason he’s building in terms into the IPO that prevent him being ousted - public companies making losses are at risk of board shakeups, he’s making sure that isn’t possible before the float launches.

He doesnt care if twitter or spaceX lose money, they’re valuable levers to get what he wants

  • I’m not a Ukrainian drone designer, but at a guess: weight and cost.

Recoilless shotguns arent just pulling the stock off your grandpa’s shottie. They have a specific gas chamber design that is specific (ie not cheap to buy). They’re also not light so the drone has to be able to lift it.

Heavier drones like that werent widely available initially - UA were just getting in as many DJI drones from China as they could lay their hands on. Now they are making their own they can adapt the design to different uses.

Also using a low cost quad drone to kamikaze another drone was probably cheaper than specialist ones to shoot them down.
