It’s been in use since the 16th century by English speakers. Basically it was just an anglicization of the Spanish or Portuguese negro. At the time it was seen as neutral by white folk, but it’s also always been tied to slavery, so definitely not neutral from the pov of the slaves.

So did its use imply a power imbalance? Yes. Did the white folk who used it early on know? Maybe…?

I guess it’s similar to using “Indian” to describe New World Native peoples. It’s always been tied to expansionism and genocide, but from the pov of the oppressor that connotation isn’t readily recognized.

Don’t you basically only need to change the pronouns you use to ask about their Significant Other, and maybe change the “when are you going to have kids?” to “when are you going to adopt a kid?”.

Starts with a “oh shit these old people have expensive healthcare needs!”, proceeds to “how the hell are we going to pay for their elder benefits?” (Social Security in the US), and eventually to “even their houses got gobbled up by the banks and private capital when they had to reverse mortgage their houses to live out their final days…”

Can we get these so big they’re meaningless costs in terms of something understandable, like years of free lunches for all elementary school students? Housing all currently unhoused people? (Not medical, those costs make no sense)

I got a Braun HM5100 six or so years ago. Use it at least twice monthly and it’s still as good as the day I bought it. It’s variable speed on a dial, not a switch, so you can bring up or down the speed with much more control.

They’re too stuck on running people whose whole ethos is “if only things were how they had been back in the 90s” (when DNC had power). Was a great time for them, but since Regan, everything’s been getting shittier for everyone not in the political or donor class. They need to run a FDR not a Biden.
