Makes even more sense one you realize that the inquisition and witch hunts were deeply intertwined with the forceful establishment of capitalism

Memes@lemmy.ml•Nah China "bad"/"authoritarian" and the DPRK is an "evil evil dictatorhsip" ~lemmy liberals
0·1 day agoI honestly don’t expect to find examples of all three in this comment section. The libs are not OK.
You can get !memes@lemmy.ml to upvote a lot of anti-imperialist sentiment, but they usually draw the line at the Nazi American Treaty Organization.
Curious.

World News@lemmy.ml•'When the killer cooks': Viral image shows Israeli soldier cooking in southern Lebanese home
0·2 days agoLebanon is Poland. They also have a comprador government who is hellbent on being in good graces with the country trying to conquer them (Israel/Germany) and refusing any help from the country desperately trying to stop that unhinged country (Iran/Soviet Union) because they have a scary ideology and are not civilized(westernized) enough and actually they are the real threat.

0·2 days agoObviously those are fake communist numbers, can’t trust them!
And besides, people in those countries can’t suicide because the evil regime would gulag their whole family for two generations!
And actually, higher suicide rate in capitalist countries just shows they have more personal freedom/are more democratic!
— some free-thinker liberal out there
Most of the Zionists would leave of their own volition the moment the apartheid system is abolished and any semblance of equality established. That’s what happened in South Africa.

World News@lemmy.ml•Australia’s most decorated soldier arrested over alleged war crimes
0·18 days agoThe man who exposed his crimes, David McBride, was sentenced to 5 years and 8 months in prison in 2024 for “unlawfully disclosing Commonwealth documents”.
Boy Boy made a video about the situation, just weeks before David was sentenced. You can learn more about the depravity of Australian lackeys of America from it.
the first character does in fact mean “good” or “alright” (here used in the sense of the exclamation OK) and the other two form the phrase used to express “come in” (like answering a door knock)

The US only joined the war opportunistically and because Japan was stupid enough to drag them into it.
Ever heard of the guy named Harry Truman (I’m sure he wasn’t anyone too important)? That’s what he had to say about WW2:
If we see that Germany is winning we ought to help Russia and if Russia is winning we ought to help Germany, and that way let them kill as many as possible, although I don’t want to see Hitler victorious under any circumstances.
The Soviets did the majority of the fighting against the Nazis and the Chinese againt Japan.
It’s almost like the US empire was doing similar things in the past when Herbert wrote the books…

World News@lemmy.ml•Enemy media: Iran has fired some 300 missiles at Israel, about half with cluster bomb warheads
0·2 months agoThese are not cluster munitions which are indeed designed to harm as many civilians as possible (one of the favorite tools of the US by the way).
They are missiles which release multiple warheads near the end of their journey, each of which homes in on a separate target, they don’t just explode shrapnel in all directions like cluster bombs do.

Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•[Ventpost on Torkil Lauesen] Always check the author's views on the USSR and Stalin before you read them.
0·4 months agoI’ve watched the book launch on Gabriel Rockhill’s Critical Theory Workshop channel and I do remember him making some offhand remark about “stalinist bureaucracy” but I let it slide. Didn’t expect it to be so bad.
I also noticed some other concerning matters in that interview:
- Torkil was very insistent on not calling China socialist, because he considers it a “transitional state” instead (as if that’s not what a socialist state is).
- When pressed about his designation of China by an audience member, he asserts that “the basic difference between capitalism and socialism is the market” and “my definition of socialism is a system without market forces”.

The point is those “non-lethal” methods only work because they are backed by “lethal” ones.
