reading this Guardian piece should make your bs radar ping as it has a lot of clickbait about disasters, but the Main Point is in a link which is

I spent some time looking into this
As far as I can tell, the coconut husk thing is BS, cause it is well known and has been for some time that fungi can at least partially degrade some plastics

I was to lazy to see if the method used, an agar plate plaque assay, actually measues plastic degredation

afaik, a lot of the problem with HSR in CA is actually a tiny number of powerful state legislators, who insist the route run thru their little town, even tho that is an idiotic idea

so check your assumptions, right ?
