Privacy@lemmy.ml•Whats do you consider the best choice for private mobile browsing?English
0·13 days agoFirefox mobile (so I can sync between my devices) with extensions installed like Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin.
Otherwise: Firefox Klar, Waterfox to sync all my work bookmarks between devices, Vanadium if I need anything google or chromium specific, and Tor.
I got tired of having two different profiles in GrapheneOS (a secondary with Google logged in), now I log in to my google account via Vanadium if I need to do anything like check GMail or Google Voice messages. I just live with never logging in to google maps, so I can’t save places or plan trips with friends in a streamlined manner. I work around it, screenshot the place in maps (logged out) or copypasta into an encrypted note taking app.
Search Portals: Searxng, 4Get, Qwant, Startpage, DuckDuckGo
I went on a hike once with timberland boots that had been in a closet for a couple years. The glue dissolved at the destination (freshwater swimming area) and the rubber sole separated from the leather upper. I had to hike back to the car in moccasins.

World News@lemmy.world•Foreign business owners face frantic scramble to leave Japan amid tighter visa rulesEnglish
0·2 months agoThe right wing populist party sanseito and rise of populist policies is also driven by younger voters (below 50) in Japan. For those who don’t follow Japanese politics closely, the Liberal Democratic Party has been in power for decades and moves in what ever direction it needs to to maintain power. Far right Sanseito influenced Japanese politices enough since 2020 to push Japan in that direction, because the LDP just absorbs the platform of contenders.
Disenfranchised voters below 50 in a country that’s be stagnant or declining for 35 years. Not just elderly like you might think. Now the boogeyman scapegoat is foreigners.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanseitō
"The speech of the party is emotionally rather than logically appealing. Therefore, they appeal to the sensibilities of the politically inexperienced and have increased their support.
According to Japanese political analyst Hiroo Hagino, the party is supported by the younger population, who have become disappointed with politics centred on the elderly. According to a JNN survey, a higher proportion of young people voted for Sanseitō in the last election than other demographics. Some Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) officials expressed worry that they might lose votes because both parties have conservative policies. Most of the Sanseitō voters did not support the Kishida government. The appeal of Sanseitō among young people is partly linked to the social crisis Japan is currently experiencing. Growing inequality due to slowing growth since the 1990s and persistent inflation, which is eroding purchasing power, have dampened the hopes for the future of younger generations, many of whom do not have permanent jobs."

“Due to feedback from a wider audience than before, some of the idiosyncratic features that I built because of my personal obsessions have been made optional and OFF by default, such as the 4chan meme filter, meme communities being flagged as ‘low quality’ and so on”
The piefed dev made some biased decisions, owned up to their mistakes, fixed it, but lost the trust of many users.

0·3 months agodev politics and dev opinions. Pick whichever you like it doesn’t matter.
Kbin is dead Mbin is the successor, both have lemmy (reddit-like) and mastodon (twitter-like) capabilities. You can submit a “tweet” and a “post” from the same platform and browse both lemmy and mastodon content.
Lemmmy is the activitypub version of reddit. PieFed is Lemmy but with the ability to see all comments and cross-posts of the same link or post, all collapsed into a single post and single thread to scroll through.
Beehaw deserves its own mention because of how cut off it is from the rest of the fediverse, its its own little walled garden, protected from all the baddies out there in the world.
All the rest is just drama surrounding the devs of all the platforms, and either their questionable political views (lemmy) or their questionable platform moderation views (piefed). So the platforms keep splintering as well as the instances on each platform. Which is a good thing its part of the fun of the fediverse.

They wont ship to my locale and actively block frieight forwarders, otherwise I would happily give them $10k for a couple high end computers.
