I am trying to find something that’s basically a mac mini but better… I’m willing to pay more for something that lasts a really long time. I’ve noticed most of these recommended machines are reparable.

0·17 days agoThat’s the same thing as just saying retarded. Why not just call him retarded? I do not think you’re woke if you call someone a mongoloid who doesn’t call himself that. There’s nothing you can do to walk it back either, I already know you’re not woke.

Technology@lemmy.world•Sam Altman and Dario Amodei are both walking back their AI jobs apocalypse prophecies as they eye blockbuster IPOsEnglish
2·17 days agoA few content creators and independent news organizations I used to follow turned out to be funded by Russia, so I’m a lot more skeptical now
Thanks, this is helpful for me
I actually haven’t tried it yet, my old mac was Intel I was considering which new machine to buy. The laptop hinge is sort of falling off, some issues with the screen and plus I want something new and shiny. I just heard Asahi kind of sucked and wouldn’t be supported in the future, I wonder if it’s true.
I looked at framework, but I am not interested in a laptop, I like ‘desktop servers.’ Mini pcs that I use to serve content to my phone or an ipad that I can only very occasionally use as a desktop computer rather than a server. System 76 and Dell have really energy efficient mini pcs. Framework seems more laptop focused but I’ll give it a second look because I’ve heard it recommended before
macOS is a good OS that just works, say what you want about Apple but this is true for my usecase. I forgot about Dell, that was my go-to when I was using Windows.
System 76 it is! Or maybe a cheap Shenzhen knockoff.

1·17 days agoYes, I’m aware that this is very common.
This experience was educational for me. I learned that if someone is doing something wrong to others, even if it seems relatively small, they’re probably doing something worse that you’re unaware of.

1·17 days agoSure there are many youtubers who can start out small and scale up, but scaling up involves making those connections I was talking about before. You’re eventually going to get approached by sponsors. If your channel discusses political topics, you will probably be contacted by people who want to advertise within those topics. The average person cannot achieve the production quality that the bigger channels can.

2·18 days agoThere’s one person I knew who was an activist, who frequently weaponized leftist language in order to police or punish other people. Ie, accusing people of racism for ordering an Asian Chicken Salad at a fast food place, or for trying to learn Spanish at the community college, and she would phrase her criticisms in such a way that any complaint would make the other person seem wrong. I legitimately thought she was just mentally ill.
I found out later that she was trying to blackmail and defraud a local charity, and that’s when our association ended. She has been banned form some community organizing spaces because she inserts herself into every single one of them.

My guess is because all these guys are on the down low anyway
