I guess one inherent weakness in slowly turning the US into not only an oligarchy, but a science-averse gerontocracy is that over the coming decade there’s gonna be a lot of familiar names croaking.

I guess if their power isn’t out from storms it’s good
(more seriously battery plus heat pump plus solar sounds good)
Yeah, my mom grows carrots in a variety of colours, not just the new orange one that’s become so common. Also grows blue potatoes, purple beans and whatnot, because she has more fun with more colourful food.
Dark heirloom tomatoes are pretty neat too.
Who doesn’t? Majority lactose intolerant nations?

That’s how geothermal heat pumps work. It is possible to have geothermal heat pumps that only extract heat, but then you need much deeper wells.
Last place I lived replaced our oil furnaces with geothermal heat pumps back when oil furnaces were banned back in 2020, but the in-apartment bit was old radiators, which aren’t suitable for absorbing heat, so we had to get some energy wells that were a few hundred meters deep.
… and still swelter in summer :|

There are semireflective films you can install on the outside of the window to keep more of the energy out. Just needs some mild soap water and a simple flat tool to install. You can get them in different strengths, i.e. you probably want the mildest option for windows you want to look out of, but max strength for your bedroom (which you want to be dark anyway).
Can also second the Crystal Project!
Afaik it’s not released yet, just announced. Drops in October I think. It’s also a reimagining of Brave Exvius, for those who missed it or never played it.
Elliott is allegedly a Zelda-like, which sounds interesting to me, even the Navi is apparently even worse there.
Can also recommend Ara Fell and Rise of the Third Power for a retro jrpg itch.

EV owners were derided for driving “slowly” (within the speed limit!) to save power and not have worries about charging, so we do know that car owners will actually do stuff like that once they’re actually concerned. Fossil fuels still seem to be cheap enough that people don’t, though.

There are things that can be done to curb demand without cutting travel itself, like lowering speed limits for fossil cars.
But the right wing political machine runs on the opinion that stuff like that is all left-wing, and that right-wing means unlimited cheap gasoline.
“Reality has a well-known liberal bias” and all that
That really doesn’t seem to be the case for a lot of folks
Somehow still doing a better job than the largest country in NA
Speaking of ffxiv, if I had a penny for every MMO trailer with tapestry artwork I’ve seen come out this year, I’d have two pennies, etc
(FFXIV Evercold trailer being the first one)

Nice to see libxml2 dropped I guess, after that ordeal with it becoming unmaintained last year. But curious what the replacement is, and if others are finding replacements as well.
It’s the same picture

Not that big on ligatures in monospace, really. I think I just go with what seems to look kinda nice and has a big enough amount of symbols to not look weird once a few of them are needed.
Also generally prefer dotted zero, or an inverse Ø. Fonts that make 0 and Ø look the same might as well just drop the slash altogether.
In spite of that I’ve been using Fantasque Sans Mono for years. At least the slash in its 0 doesn’t extend beyond the circle like in an Ø.
Isn’t rather “meme” the refinement from “gene” (seeing as it was chosen to rhyme with gene)
