Why is Lorraine essentially naked at a bar? The guy checking her out is clothed. No wonder he is taking a gander.

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube Premium just got more expensive again: now $16 a month, or $27 for familiesEnglish
2·1 month agoIf she uses Safari, there are some good plugins. Not all are free. StopTheMadness Pro is not cheap but is a solution for many annoyances, not just YT. UnTrap for YouTube allows you to hide many elements like shorts. And SponsorBlock automatically skips sponsored segments. If she uses the YouTube app, delete it and set up a shortcut on the home screen to open the web version instead.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should you renounce your current citizenship if moving abroad permanently?English
0·1 month agoYeah, unless you’ve been abroad for more than a few years without voting. Then your electoral enrolment gets cancelled. It can only be reinstated by returning and living in Australia for at least six (or is it 3) months.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those in countries with universal healthcare, what's it like?English
0·2 months agoBut we do pay about 9% of our salaries into the health system, which is mandatory. Just another tax.
Monthly visit for me costs ¥1,420 (9 USD). When I had a wisdom tooth removed at a big hospital it cost ¥7,040 (45 USD).
Basically, we pay 30% of the actual cost. But if you reach a predetermined amount (about ¥90,000) in a month, then you don’t pay any more (or something like that, there is a system, but you have to apply at the time or retrospectively and get a refund)
Also, prices are less for kids (depends on prefecture). A week in hospital for a preschool child costs about ¥4,000. Doctor visits and medicine are often free until elementary school, where each may go up to about ¥500.
Oh, and ambulances are free.

Australia@aussie.zone•Why does Australia have an overpriced passport?English
0·3 months agoIt gets worse. If you live abroad and need to renew it, it costs $600. In Japan, the locals can get a passport for about $100, and they’re planning to lower it to counteract a rise in the departure tax (I think).

0·4 months agoFinancial institutions in Japan ask the same thing. It is because Americans have to pay tax to American even when they don’t live in America. It just means there is more paperwork apparently.

Most web browsers have a reader view which simplifies the display so that it is easy to read like a book or newspaper. This mode often removes soft paywalls as they are just an overlay.
