  • This is completely unsurprising when you’re aware of the reasons that motivated PieFed’s development (anti communism). Features designed to limit the voice and reach of certain instances lines up with that motivation. PieFed exists to counteract communist influence in the threadiverse.

Some here who helped push it spin it as a way to make the fediverse more palatable to the average Internet user because they care more about growth than culture, but the underlying motivation has always been to try to separate the threadiverse from its communist roots.

I’ll take the tankie devs over liberal devs every single time, personally. You can say what you want about them and how they personally run their instances, but I’m not aware of them developing any underhanded features like these and others in PieFed.

  • Remember when people voted in 2020? Wow that sure showed them. Or even 2008?

Almost like if your opposition party doesn’t actually present an alternative vision (i.e socialism) and therefore do not and cannot address the root of major issues (wealth consolidation, inequality, housing, pricing etc all eventually lead to the institution of private property), then surprise! The right rallies, the general populace looks for something, and shockingly the reaction has empowered a far right “populist” and pushed the country further to the right. Who could have seen this coming? (literally every socialist).

Your voting didn’t do much of anything and the US continues to slide further to the right as it has since like the new deal.

  • The ending of Chinatown really prepares you for a world where evil assholes own everything and continue to get away with anything.

Also, extremely ironic in that way.

Helms Deep is pretty much an ode to fighting back against overwhelming odds and the power of hope. That battle combined with Sam’s words about goodness being worth fighting for. Also, Gandalf’s words in Fellowship about choosing what to do with the world given to you has always stuck with me as motivating words when things seem bleak.

I also really enjoyed the scene in Everything Everywhere All at Once where Waymond talks about how kindness is a strength.

Could probably keep going but those are standing out to me today.
