I’m going to Zaragoza, Spain and will likely move there as well when I’m done with the first year of study.

I have a satchel bag (around 12 inches but very flexible and expandable)

It does the trick but can still get hefty if I’m not careful

Usually, i try to go up to ten things maximum (though I may do extra stuff occasionally):

  1. Wallet and whatever is in it (I’m done putting that thing in my pocket, ngl, my pockets are terribad)

  2. Pocket notebook and pen (same as the wallet ngl)

  3. a stim / fidget / soothing item and/or toy for my Autistic brain (preferably one that’s somewhat quiet and doesn’t loop back into being distracting to me in an annoying way)

  4. my tablet (Redmagic Astra; got it from China in my case)

  5. my very old phone at this point (will likely get a new one; mine seems to be eight or nine years old now)

  6. my Android keyboard (foldable mind you so that’s neat) for my tablet and / or smart phone)

  7. foldable tablet / smart phone stand

  8. Power bank for charging

  9. Power cord and power brick / adapter

  10. ear-plugs for my extreme misophonia whenever I need it (though I may also prefer these ones at times since they go up to 50dB in noise reduction)

honestly, that’s it, and even rather “extra”

I technically only need two of those (the smart phone and wallet and ensuing contents in it)

To me, the “necessaries”: are the stim / fidget, the tablet, the pocket note book with pen, power cord and adapter, and power bank. Oh, and I guess the ear-plugs. So about eight “necessaries” in total (including two of which I actually really need for myself)

Honestly, though, I would prefer to have the tablet stand and foldable Android keyboard.

The problem is that, after those ten or so items, my rather flexible satchel that I otherwise really like starts to get too big, bulky, or unweildy as you drift from the “ten” number; the more you add from then on, the more bulky it gets.

but if I were to include anything else there:

  1. the telescopic controller (Shadow Blade Gamepad 3) I have for my tablet (along with the nifty cooling vent); might have to actually replace it though ahahaha

  2. the somewhat old Bose over-ear earphones I have that doesn’t really work anymore or produce any white noise anymore (though it does muffle sound pretty well even now, which helps for my extreme misophonia when I pair it with the earplugs)

  3. sun-glasses that I can put over my normal glasses for the light but i’ll probably get one of those magnetic sun-glasses clips

  4. I sometimes bring a stencil for the items on my pocket notebook

  5. maybe a stylus but I guess that depends on when I’ll replace my Redmagic Astra which… may have issues I may honestly be willing to replace completely for (it’s a good tablet though)

not sure what more I could possibly add on to this

I might get one of those “lanyard jackets” for whatever new phone I’ll get there.

And maybe a slightly bigger satchel bag.

I think the extra space might come in handy idk

Besides, eventually I plan to wear a skirt later (and I don’t know about you but pockets in jeans SUCK; they are either not big enough or too thin or hard to take anything out of them when you’re, say, driving or sitting in the car smdh…)

Anyway, what are your EDC or “carry every day” items when you’re out of the house?

Or traveling in general?

Cheers, good to be back

I nearly always carry a backpack. If it might rain then I carry rain-proof pants, a raincoat and a waterproof camping bag and I stuff them into a big army rucksack. I have a longpack currently but I might get a non-longpack size in the future, because most trips around the city don’t require a longpack.

I always carry a tiny Len Lenser 90 lumen torch (p3 core is the model I think) because landlords don’t repair sensor lights outside and one of the hallway lights doesn’t work either. It’s also good to use the torch to signal the bus driver when it’s dark.

The waterproof gear, torch and large backpack are my essential items. Then it’s just the old wallet and phone and maybe the G Shock watch on my wrist so I can use the countdown timer at the laundromat and also check the time without needing to get my phone from my bag or pocket.

      That lumen torch sounds awesome.

I was thinking about getting either a knapsack or lantern, though one of those electric ones for the time being.

My torch is the size of my thumb so it’s pretty neat. Just enough to illuminate the ground in front of me, using nothing but a single AAA battery. Of course after about 2 months I need to replace the battery to ensure that it’s bright enough.

A single AAA battery? And in two months of use?!

          Also, shout-out to batteries, I miss batteries now… ;_;

I use it sparingly. If it runs low then sometimes it’s just really dim and maybe when I press the button it fails to make any light at all (intermittently) so it’s good to carry a spare. At least it uses 1 battery and not 3, otherwise I’d burn $$$$$$$$ quicker.

Depends on how long i think i will be out for and where. If i’m just going out casually: phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, hand sanitizer, tissues, all of these fit into my pockets. Headphones if i’m expecting to get bored.

Larger items would be: hat and high SPF sunscreen if it’s sunny, umbrella if it’s rainy, gloves, scarf and warm hat if it’s cold. If i’m walking i can carry them in a small backpack for when i need them, or leave them in the car if i’m driving.

If I’m travelling then also charger, portable battery, printed travel documents (in case my phone breaks), pen.

If i’m going out on a day hike i would add in my backpack a bottle of water or two, a snack, band-aids, extra pair of socks and a shirt.

If i’m hiking where there are bears i’d also take pepper spray with me. I’ve seen bears up close while hiking but never had to use it, luckily.

I have pepper spray but that’s literally in case I get attacked by my younger sibling who is fascist now.

Also, I want to do hiking one day and see more nature.

Dunno what opportunities I will get to do so in Zaragoza or Aragón.

I don’t like looking at a screen all day; I am literally trying to see if I can cut my screen time in half. So far though, I am just keeping track of it (which helps to a degree).

      Anyway

      Thanks!

I should consider getting a hat since the sun in Zaragoza can be quite hot, especially now. Maybe sunscreen too.

Hiking is very relaxing, and being in nature can really improve your psychological wellbeing. You just need to be prepared, like the hat and sunscreen are essential in the summer.

I wanted to live near the outskirts of Zaragoza.

Not necessarily in the outskirts mind you

but definitely near enough where there might be more green, vegetation, and flowers, you know?

Although… from what my Mom showed me through some pictures and videos (I decided to go to Zaragoza and she is pushing me to go which I really REALLY appreciate now), Zaragoza is already pretty green, has lots of trees even, and a few nice parks.

          Honestly?

My suburban neighborhood has a lot of trees and stuff in the distance…

…but that city looks fucking better in every way ngl

I’ve gone down an ultralight backpacking / hiking rabbit hole the last few years. It depends on how long you’re going to be staying, but if its city travel, it looks like you got your bases covered.

    A few thing I didn’t see:

    • Sun hat. If you plan on walking at all, I highly recommend bringing a packable sun hat.
    • Backpack (Cheap, lightweight) instead of a satchel. Even if you’re carrying less than 5 lbs, its much better to evenly distribute that weight: your back will thank you. The lighter and less padded, the better.
    • If it might rain, extremely lightweight full-body rain suit like frogg toggs. This is better than an umbrella, like ~20 USD, and weighs less.

If you’re going for longer you’ll need to think about clothes, bathroom stuff, etc.

      “packable sun hat”

Yeah, I need to find something that’s either foldable or easy to pack vis a vis actual headgear

I don’t know about a backpack yet, but I was told that I should consider getting a backpack (one of those really light city backpacks I think). But also, I already have a satchel bag (I do want a slightly bigger satchel bag now). I guess the point about one’s back is true though…

I might get one of those rain ponchos. Frogg toggs are good though. I could still get one of those stowable umbrellas but eh, I always have trouble immediatelyl opening them, you know?

      Thanks for the advice!

No probs. In my experience, I really wanted to like umbrellas, especially since they seem multi-purpose (sun and rain protection) but they’re fairly useless as soon as there’s even a slight wind, so they’re can be useless for both. Also they can be unwieldy in a city in a way that a hat isn’t.

The hat I use is a buff explore booney hat. Its a little pricier than the ones you’ll find on amazon (~50 USD), but its super light and can even fit in a pocket. I’m sure there are plenty of cheaper ones that are just as good elsewhere.

The frogg toggs I’m referring to is basically a full-body poncho, that’s ~20 USD, the ultralite 2. It weighs almost nothing.

Hats make sense both as a style choice and in a practical sense.

Umbrellas can be… counter-practical (given the wind issue and the fact that you can’t really use them in the sun).

          Then again

I have considered getting a parasol (for the sun) now that I am starting HRT soon.

Nice, ya I’d def see about borrowing an umbrella from a friend first before buying one. At least where I live there’s always at least some breeze which makes them annoying to hold.

The essentials in my purse right now are:

    • wallet
    • phone
    • portable fan
    • keys

There’s a lot of other stuff that rotates though. I keep the smaller stuff in pouches for ease of swapping or digging.

    • stationary pouch
    • cosmetics pouch
    • miscellaneous pouch (mostly wet naps and chewing gum)
    • 3DS
    • water bottle
    • power bank

      Oh yeah

I like my satchel bag, the one I linked up above.

But I am going to need a purse eventually.

Maybe one with more compartments and more space as well (so longer than 12 inches and taller than 9 inches).

I am definitely looking for recommendations on those.

Also, a stationary pouch! I love stationary!

Every woman needs at least 2 purses. One for when you want to bring along the kitchen sink, and others for when you just want the essentials or to look nice. But sorry, I can’t really give recommendations. I have yet to find a purse that I’ve really loved.

My stationary pouch just contains a few pens, a couple of pencils, an eraser, and a dry erase marker and eraser. Nothing terribly exciting, sorry.

I’m curious what you/fidget item you find useful that is not noisy? I find most of mine are noisy and distract or annoy people around me.

Would love to see what you’ve found.
