I try to give the most grace possible. I’ve only ever blocked two users here. That said, I’d totally understand why someone might block me.

One dude got into a highly uncivil argument about what constitutes “real physics” on a post about… (tbh I don’t remember now but I’m thinking electromagnetism?). Anyway I mini banned them (I think I did accidentally remove too many comments but anyway) of both users because they were having a toddler level with profanity squabble. One of them called me some kinda profanity so I permabanned and they made a post on power tripping mods and pretty much everyone was like "you know we can still dig the comments AND your DMs out… right? Like I woke up and pretty much everyone had already defended me. Anyway I blocked them and moved on with my life. People need to use the block button more often tbh.

I never block anyone. I just tag people so I know who I’m dealing with the next time I encounter them.

Btw I have you tagged too

Nothing yet. But I’m sure your paths will cross in the future in some discussion and I will get to judge your whole life and personality based on a few comments and probably get you labelled as someone you’re not, because that’s how the internet works.

I only really blocked power users on reddit and lemmy doesn’t have those yet. Not the same way gallowboob was.

I feel like accounts like PugJesus, PicardManeuver, and LadyButterfly are doing a pretty hefty chunk of Lemmy posts. I don’t dislike any of them (I like how PJ adds little contextual informative notes to their memes and whatnot, Butterfly seems to provide a lot of positivity), but I did add little colored tags to their accounts to help me realize just how many posts were theirs. I don’t know how they manage to stay motivated to keep doing all that posting

The culture of lemmy is very anti consumer, which helps to insulate it from that. If the normies started moving in, that’s when the problems start.

Someone who posts to reddit like it’s their job. They’re normally a mod for a far too many subs, repost already popular memes and probably take payments to push advertisements disguised as memes. I remember a period of time when everyone was posting weird happenings in front of their houses from their doorbell cams. The brand burn ins were always turned on.

they usually post a ton, on multiple subs at once. think of a like a power-mod on reddi, they control dozens or even hundreds of subs.

A guy commented a screenshot of me with a tag like that. “Toxic do not interact”. I do act toxic in the shitpost community lmao so, fair. I’m real good in serious communities though.

The left lemmy vibe is very-much bipolar.

You could post identical comments 10 minutes apart and one could be downvoted to oblivion whilst the other is top comment.

I do that too, but also if you enable tracking votes (I’m using Voyager) then you basically are tracking positive and negative encounters and you get an idea what a thread will be like just by looking. Example, you and OP appear to be nice peeps:

I have no qualms blocking someone if they’re particularly vile, but I prefer not to block. I have like 7ish people total blocked.

I think that all of the people I’ve blocked for a reason that I can recall have been users who were repeatedly spamming comments in threads to try to make them unreadable for other users. One was just commenting over and over with a couple of giant inline Simpsons images.

No; I’m not subscribed to any communities that deal with trolling. I wasn’t even aware that there were any out there.

I mean like shitposting/meme communities. I troll and act silly in communities like those but mostly keep it serious in this one along with other serious communities.

Oh. I don’t mean people posting memes or reaction gifs or stuff like that. I don’t recall the specifics of the community, though.

EDIT: Though the only meme community I subscribe to is !linuxmemes@lemmy.world.

As I’ve said to a good few people: if they don’t want me to call them out, the block button is right there. It’s as level of a playing field as it gets!

I more so mean in regards to moderation. One of the communities I blocked was directly due to mods removing my comments even though they didn’t break any rules. Shocker it was a .ml

  • I’m not gonna just willy nilly block people… already too low userbase, I kinda wanna just see the drama

Like even that user asking weird age gap questions is part of the entertainment lol

But if they start being overtly toxic… yea I’m just gonna block and ignore

I have not really had to block til recently. Esp attention seekers who have just joined and are posting immature crap.

I would say i have blocked at least 5 in the last 2 weeks.
