Yeah, he’s 100% correct, but we very much so do not want the military to mix into the political scene. I would pick an example from Rome, but uhhh… I think all 2100 years of Roman history will do. So where I strongly believe he should be court martialed for this, I also strongly believe he’s justified in his actions. His protest is the right move, and I think generating outrage that his protest is necessary is also the right move.
This makes it a more effective protest! Remember legality is not morality.
He knew his career was fucked whether or not he showed in uniform, might as well layer on the defiance.
So then, when companies show pictures of ‘service members’ in their support the troops ads, they aren’t allowed to use actual soldiers in uniforms? Those are purely made for commercial interests…

But to answer you’re question, it depends on whether or not the order issued is legal. Follow an order to commit a war crime, and you go to prison and get dishonorably discharged.

Excellent, unfortunately barring the conclusion. We are well past the point of fixing this via first amendment rights - he knows this. He even acknowledged that the Trump regime IS a domestic enemy against the US and its constitution, and that that oath obligated him to use whatever force is necessary to remove that threat.
His final address should have been to other members of the military, prodding them into action to act on their oath instead of continuing to sit and idly follow the orders of a domestic enemy.
Still, can’t let perfect be the enemy of good - he just lost his career in defiance to the Trump regime, which is a hell of a lot more than any of the rest of us are doing.

Yeah, I think I generally agree with you in the end, but I think it’s at least worth mentioning that he would effectively be asking other members of the military to get themselves court martialed as well. On top of that, he’d be unintentionally asking to set a precedence of the military getting involved in politics. So my initial reaction is to agree with you and say he should have called on others in the military to join him, because it is indeed that dire, but he may be right to refrain from optically encouraging others to cross the Rubicon.
Either way, I think you bring up a good point in the identification of Trump as a domestic enemy that those in the armed forces swear an oath to defend the constitution from. I wonder if that was his way of attempting to walk that line carefully. Definitely not an easy decision to make in any capacity.
There needs to be a distinction between the military getting involved in politics, and the military removing a tactical threat who happens to be a politician.
It’s a slippery slope to be sure - I’m not calling for a coup in the sense of seizing power, but an excision in the sense of removing a tumor so the body can go back to functioning normally. They need to be completely hands off once the threat is taken care of.
