If you don’t know, Keemstar was a 40-something-year-old man dating a 23–24-year-old woman. Trisha Paytas, a 37-year-old YouTuber, made a video calling Keemstar a predator and saying the age of consent should be 25. Now, I personally think calling Keemstar a “predator” or “pedo” is objectively false. If you want to say it’s gross, sure—but unless he met her when she was a minor, words like “grooming,” “predator,” and “pedo” have actual meanings.

What makes this even more confusing is that her husband is 48, and she brought up how he slept with a minor when he was an adult. He has also been accused of rape and called the victim a liar. On top of that, Trisha herself has flirted with and sexually harassed minors when she was an adult woman.

So, if we’re going by who’s worse, I’d say an older man being in a consensual relationship with a younger—but still adult—woman is better than an adult engaging in predatory behavior toward minors. Why did she do this? Her digital footprint is insane.

I’ve never been more sorely tempted to post an old man fedi rant that you should get off youtube and onto peertube in my life.

I’m gonna be honest, I took a look at peertube and just couldn’t find anything I was really interested in. Like I was just looking for some good gaming content and I couldn’t find anything to my taste (or honestly much at all). Maybe this is a case of user error, but I just don’t think peertube currently has the content to encourage viewers to switch

I have never heard of these people before right now, but based on your description it sounds like your question is why would a YouTuber say something hypocritical?

    Mostly because:

    1. Literally everyone is hypocritical sometimes
    2. YouTube incentivises sensationalism

I’m just going to point out that this community is for questions that you think are too engagingly stupid to ask in person.

It is NOT for rants disguised as questions.
