Honest question, has he tried to defend the DDOS attack? Can’t imagine how one would justify that
It was especially stupid when everyone already was scrutinizing his code. Like users found his secret block list that was better hidden than this, and didn’t think anyone would find the ddos code? What a freakin’ moron.
I haven’t seen him acknowledge it yet
he’s still around? which alt is he using right now?
I’m watching two users that have been defending him while skirting around the actual problems. Right now, I’m not fully sure if they are alts of his. They aren’t active at the same time, as in one stopped commenting a few hours ago and then the other started commenting, which I find suspicious.
They’ve been called out as possible alts in this post and another tesseract post in this community. Neither have responded to the accusations though, which I also find suspicious lol
And he’s still made recent comments on his Kirk account
I’ve just started using Patrick as an insult
If this person is using alts and still commenting then they really, really need to touch grass. Thats gona be a fairly unhealthy psychological behaviour.
Patrick if you read this please actually give yourself 48 hours offline. Disconnect and go have a cuppa with a friend or family member (or both). You don’t need to talk to then about any of this, the rest of the world doesn’t know or care anyway. :)
Don’t worry about this cesspit, we’ll all be here being our lovely toxic selves when you come back.
As I gain a better understanding of how federated social media works, I just find it even more confusing. This dude appointed himself batman of lemmy, but he’s just a single dev of a single frontend. Don’t most instances have multiple frontends? Even if a secret block list was the key to getting lemmy to finally go mainstream (it’s not), implementing it at a frontend level is simultaneously both way too wide and way too small of a net. If tesseract was the only way anyone could access lemmy, maybe a secret block list could actually change the winds, but it’s such a small slice of the fediverse. It’s like if batman was only beating up jaywalkers and was like “You’re welcome, Gotham. The city is saved.”
What was the point of any of it? Someone was inevitably going to discover it was happening. There were so many people on the block list. Was he just going to personally defend against the ranks of people he found annoying forever? Keep adding more and more regex as the list grows to multiple thousands of users? They’re still on the platform, dude. It’s just one filter on one frontend. What the hell are you trying to accomplish?

You nailed it! The impact was minimal. Its so many stupid hoops to get to his frontend. The root issue was keeping it a secret. And that’s why everyone was clowning on him, with many users (myself included) wishing we were on that list.
Apparently that broke Admiral cucktits because his secret list of gay lefties didn’t make him as cool as Batman. It made him like… Ketchup man or some 4th rate villain with a stupid gimmick, who thinks he’s “protecting” Gotham by rubbing ketchup on all the street corners to stop robbers or some dumb shit.
oy vey-- I can be a real pill. but at least I can admit when I’m wrong. A lady/gentleman apologizes and exits stage left. One doesn’t simply ragequit with a side of DDoS!
in all my years of slashdotting, Stumbling, Farking, Digging, redditry, and Lemming, I’ve never known anyone to go down this hard nor this bitter. WHAT A CUNT!
This beloved character’s namesake deserved better

And to top it all off, startrek website is going to defederate from db0 for TOTALLY REAL REASONS that aren’t just being a salty little bitch. They just can’t show you proof, cuz it’s doxxing.
What does startrek website have to do with this though?
I’m fairly sure that’s his personal instance.
There’s not much in the way of sane reasons to go from inactive to suddenly having an admin call out censorship being the ‘last straw’ causing the defed and refusing to show proof because “doxxing”.
I thought its dubvee org? Startrek website was/is a legit instance, a shitty one but legit.
is it really website about trek, or is it twisted version of trek? like how LOTR has been twisted by a certain individual who is obsessed with it.

“I’ll write a whiny multipage diatribe to rage quit and insert a script to DDOS the instance that hurt my feelings. That’s the behaviour of a well adjusted adult that’s doing the right thing.”
Dont forget locking the post so no one can comment and call you out
Then coming back to argue on alts
Yo really, is he actually doing that?
Was as of a few hours ago, I haven’t been on since then
can someone link the lore
Definitely the actions of a person who should be unquestioningly trusted to be the sole arbiter of determining what is fine and dandy and what goes too far on Lemmy. Totally not indicative of every legitimate concern every single person opposing this brought up being accurate, surely not!
My favorite reply from him when I called him out in a different thread: “why can’t you just let people use their own computers how they choose”
I’m guessing he has never heard the wisdom of not throwing stones in a glass house. The cognitive dissonance is hilarious, though.
That dude is an unbearable cunt as a mod as well. I am absolutely not surprised for the fact that he is an unbearable cunt as a developer.
IIRC he banned people in all communities he moderated if he found someone that you broke a rule in only 1 community, idk what rules though
Yes, he does. And he is very flexible in his own interpretation of the rules. He’s the kind of power-tripper I hoped leaving behind on reddit.
Hopefully he won’t come back, though evidently he’s rage quit before and come back
New accounts probably already created.
ugh you’re giving me flashbacks of getting autobanned by a bot on one of the main leftist subreddits because I’d once posted in one of the right-wing subs (calling someone out on nazi bullshit).
It’s infinitely frustrating to see a community of people who mostly just want a socialized safety net, money out of politics, less inequality and less genocide, get run by exactly the sort of people who seem like they’d be perfectly happy implementing gulags and Stasi on the first day of the revolution.
You don’t leave them behind here; you manage their reach.
Yes, but I hoped that would make this right here so unattractive, they would fall behind.
so he was basically crossbanning.
Most mods do that, though.
Really? That’s kinda messed up (unless it’s like, they ban someone homophobic or racist which then make sense)
Just how mods are. Every server’s got a few.
The disturbing thing is that a LOT of people are like this. The older I get and the more I see of humanity the more it becomes clear most don’t mentally age past early teens and many who have big parts of them that don’t age past toddler behaviour.
I’m not defending the existence of the blocklist… but if you’re really that upset about it then I would suggest asking for a refund.
upset? heavens no, this is terrific free entertainment, this is hilarious to watch.
Oh. That’s kind of weird.
last I checked, I’m still allowed to be entertained by weird things on the internet. if you aren’t, I recommend a bit more whimsy in your life.
I have no authority over you. So it’s not really a question of me “allowing” you anything.
I have no authority over you.
Despite your efforts to the contrary, lol.
Yes, my super secret manipulation campaign which involves (checks notes) expressing my disapproval.
Weird is your bad take combined with your account instance. Tone deaf af.
I just think the reaction from fediverse users has been too harsh when you consider that Tesseract was free and open source software.
lol, this is another of his alts.
Sure looks like it. Crazy ass has what he calls a boner for us it seems.
If your free software is borderline malware (which it is because it’s intentionally depriving users access to certain information with a deliberate attempt hide that fact from the users) I think people have a right to be harsh.
If it is malware then harshness is justified, but I’d be willing to debate over the strict definition of malware and whether it technically applies here.
But I don’t think most of the harshness we’ve seen is actually borne of that kind of outrage. Even the OP of this meme says they are not upset and are having a wonderful time.
I never said it’s strictly malware, I said borderline malware. It can’t be strictly malware because most definitions of malware focus on the malware taking (some or full) control of the system or extracting valuable information, things that generally pose as a direct threat of damage to the end user or system.
But restricting user access to information without the user knowing information is being restricted and taking deliberate steps to hide this is being done in the first place is all malicious behavior. If you asked from a layman if this should be considered malware behavior or not most people would consider this malware behavior, hence borderline malware.
And I don’t see how it not being “strictly malware” would change anything. People are outraged by what it is doing and how it is doing it, not by whether it fits the strict definition of malware.
Look where this user is based and how many comments they’re making defending AdmiralPatrick…
yeah I’ve sorta noticed
Good lord how many accounts does this person have?!

Best I can do is an upvote.
Hello Admiral. Why are you so scared of trans folk? Do they awaken uncomfortable feelings?
Oh hey, look who it is. The loser has another alt to try to pretend he has supporters.
We did. That’s why there was a whole public meltdown including a number of alt accounts.
You another alt?
Did we really, though? Even the OP says they don’t actually care about the blocklist and are just piling on for the lulz.
Don’t put words in my mouth. I said, quote, that I wasn’t upset, after you made a comment implying I was and that I should seek out a refund – I don’t use the Tesseract frontend, and never have. That doesn’t mean I “don’t actually care” about someone trying to play Reddit admin and sneakily impose their will onto the rest of the fediverse.
If you want to make a stupid argument, that’s fine; but make it on your own, don’t rope me into it.
I wasn’t trying to misquote you, but you did imply that entertainment is your primary motivation.
Quote:
upset? heavens no, this is terrific free entertainment, this is hilarious to watch.
To me, this sounds like someone who is pouring gas on a fire just to watch it burn.
Well, today you learned that I can care about something stupid someone else did, and be entertained by how poorly they handled it, all at the same time. I’m glad I could help clarify things for you.
See, to me, you sound like an alt of AdmiralPatrick, or possibly one of his few remaining friends, and seem to be here exclusively to make passive aggressive comments at his detractors and/or run defense for him. I wonder why that would be…
But echo chambers are so comfortable and assuring for my weak persona.
Frankly, my own block list is huge. Mostly keywords, very few users. I would recommend it to everyone. Any social media is unbearable without blocking shit out. Everyone should personalise blocklists to their tastes.
But you can’t make this decision for people. This is why I also don’t like that some instances defederate a lot of other instances they don’t like (and no one tells newbies). There’s a niche for pre-populated block lists that are available and curated and transparent (like for ad-blockers).
Yeah I think sharing them is a great idea as long as people can opt in or out. Respect people’s agency.
I got here in june, I was on the list and that was the first I’d heard of that guy. What’s his name again?
AdmiralPatrick
thank you but I was kind of being rhetorical. upvote for genuine helpfulness though!
I’m new too, also on the list. Guess cool kids now?
Everyone’s wrong sometimes that’s just the stale croutons in this human ceasar salad they call “life”. It takes a special kind of grit to be such a massive dog-rocket when your wrong tho
Being wrong in good faith is okay. He definitely was not acting in good faith.
Takes a narcissist
puts “dog-rocket” in purse for later use
Be careful where you use that it may bring unwanted attention
I like that we all know who you’re talking about without naming names
The whole world is wrong in a lot of ways. Just not this one.
Easiest block of the day

See this kinda thing is exactly why I’m still here. Some guy tried to use his software’s popularity to manipulate and censor Lemmy, and it had the exact opposite effect in the end. His software got immediately forked, most instances(that I know of) stopped using/supporting it and the whole thing is getting memed to death so now the entire usernase knows about it and can specifically avoid this guy and all the software he maintains.
When this kind of thing happens on a platform like reddit or some other closed system, we can often suspect and sometimes experimentally prove that some kind of censorship or manipulation is happening, but it is way more difficult to detect and there’s little the users can do about it.
Not here.
Here the users have the power, the knowledge, and the motivation to not only find problems like this, but to take collective action against them. You all have just proved it, once again.
Great meme!
Plus I get to trot this out in every thread about it!
