With the US blockade on Iranian shipping and ports in force along the whole of the southern Iranian coastline, and the railway link to China through the border crossing point with Turkmenistan at Inche-Buren damaged, the route across the Caspian has become the only cargo route for heavy traffic which remains under Iranian sovereign control.

Iran has been supplying Shahed drones to the Russian military since the start of the conflict. Ukraine told them to stop supplying Russia with the very weapons that enable Russia to strike their cities.

Ukraine didn’t go out of their way to start attacking random ships or murder Iranian citizens, or even attack their infrastructure. They sank a ship carrying weapons that Russia was intended to use to hurt them. That’s pretty justifiable.

Ukraine is now committing war crimes, killing innocent merchant marines, all in an attempt to merge the two wars?

There’s this WWII-era idea that ‘authoritarianism/fascism always wins, because in order to defeat it, the defender must adopt authoritarian/fascist policies.’. It seems to me that Ukraine has sadly fallen into this trap.

Attacks on arms shipments to one of the parties in a war are clearly not war crimes. I get that you’re committed to stanning the brutal, authoritarian theocracy that currently controls Iran because they’re fighting countries you don’t like, but don’t be a moron.

So we disagree on the war crimes question, what about the question of joining the war?

Isn’t it moronic and suicidal for Ukraine to join the Iran war on the side that is obviously losing?

Civilian deaths during military operations are not war crimes, per se, and the fact that civilians in this case were - as you previously acknowledged - delivering weapons to one of the belligerents means they’re directly involved in supporting Russia’s war effort.

You can call it a disagreement if you want, but you’re just wrong.

When Iran began supplying drones to Russia a few years ago, they got involved in Ukraine’s war, on Russia’s side. This is just them suffering the consequences of that.

Also, you seem to think Iran’s position is much stronger than it really is. They’ve got their hands full with their current range of foes, they have no need to find more. They’ll make some noises and threats, then do absolutely nothing at all.

Well the interesting thing about international law is that it is nuanced, you don’t have to pick one.

Targeting noncombat civilians employed in the arms trade of a country you aren’t belligerent with? That’s a war crime not only according to me, but also the UN.

Would you consider it a war crime if an Iranian missile targeted a Ukrainian munitions factory, killing the workers there? I would.

      What the fuck lol

1 I understand Iran is under attack with the US but stop fucking whitewashing them? Iran is run by shitty fuckers too. Your media addled brain has really shown its ass here. You think Iran good now because US bad.

2 They’ve been shipping weapons to Russia THE ENTIRE TIME. Before the US imperialists tried to pull some shit.

3 the fact you went neutral when Ukraine was working to secure arms is again media addled brain shit.

      My god

They don’t, they have a right to attack all the russian ships they want, attacking another country’s ships isn’t right, you tell them to stop, you make a deal with them or you blockade the receiving ports, you don’t destroy their ships and call it justified

Mind you Iran has been under sanctions for a decade now and their GDP was halved at some point from it, i don’t see Iran striking shipments by other countries to the US or Israel or calling it justified, they blockade and they make it very clear publicly where and how long so other countries don’t get their ships destroyed for no reason

I don’t remember hearing any blockading of caspian sea, or warning or threats about a strike, i didn’t even know Ukraine had plans to expand the war to Iran, cmon man nothing about this strike was right, it would only make sense if it was coming from a non defensive side

Out of all times as well while they’re under attack by insane ethno state and a super power showing maps of power plants and water reservoir in Iran on their news channels and asking viewers where the next strike should be, dude not right now ukraine does not need this reputation

Well i said my take wishing you all the best but i wouldn’t condemn Iran for retaliating

What’s Iran going to do to Ukraine that Russia can’t/isn’t? Talk about completely empty threats.

And why are you so in love with an authoritarian theocracy?

What we did to other people doesn’t matter cause we suffered, plus the ones we attacked are weak Those people are bad so they don’t deserve to be defended from us

              You guys are actually insane

Sorry, but I don’t really understand the point you’re trying to make.

Do you think Iran actually poses any meaningful threat to Ukraine, especially given their current geopolitical situation? The US wrecked most of their Caspian Sea fleet a couple weeks ago, so this isn’t even the biggest thing that happened around there this month. They seem like they already have a bunch much more urgent things to focus on than this little event, and probably don’t need any more enemies.

And, don’t forget, Iran has been supplying weapons to Russia for years, which Russia has directly used to kill Ukrainian citizens. And they didn’t start selling these weapons until the war had already started, so they can’t claim to not know what they’re being used for. This strike was a long time coming, and it’s something Iran invited on itself.

Or was your issue when I asked why are you so interested in defending the authoritarian theocracy that currently controls Iran?

Fuck off. If someone is aiding someone attacking my people and catches a few fuckin strays seems like it’s their problem huh?

What you’re not understanding is something every other country including Iran understands.

When you sell military arms, tied to an unfolding conflict, you’re taking a risk.

I’m sorry bud, but this is an absolutely ridiculous take.

Russia has been using Iranian Shahed drones to conduct nearly all of their long range drone attacks. In return, Russia has been supplying Iran with Intelligence on the US.

Ukraine didn’t just randomly attack a cargo ship. They are effectively preventing Russia from acquiring weapons. Ukraine warned Iran to stop supporting Russia with drones and to not escalate their support. Iran didn’t listen.

This has everything to do with defense.
