      yes, hence why I started with “I’m so happy my tax dollars are being used to pay for this”. Even after the administration is put in prison for their crimes (however long that may take – years, definitely, decades, possibly), there will remain countless others who got to enrich themselves off of our dime for utterly stupid shit like this; and will get away with it precisely because their actions are legal, even if they directly enable the regime to better perform illegal repression of free speech.

        I agree, I’m just making sure that the focus on profit isn’t lost.

        I am currently participating in this open course called Hitler and Stalin Today and it has been really enlightening to see how much of world history has been shaped by the commoditization of humans for profit.

        That’s a pretty optimistic take. You know nothing is gonna happen to these fucks. I do know I’m popping a bottle of champagne when Trump dies. I bet there will literally be spontaneous parties after he dies to celebrate it.

          I’ve already made my peace with the idea that Trump will never see justice and will die a free man, but there are plenty of younger men in his administration who have many years ahead of them, and the crimes they’ve committed and will commit have consequences that reach far beyond 2028, whether or not they willingly leave office at that time. Sooner or later, someone answers for this horseshit, and I and many others are and will be harassing our representatives to make sure that happens – me, personally, I’d really like to see Russell Vought and Stephen Miller spend their final years in a cell.

          I just have to keep telling myself that in mid-1939, before the war but well after much repression, probably nobody in Germany thought the Nazis would ever be punished for what they were doing to Jewish people.

          I also have a nice bottle of wine saved for Trump’s death, but I was very tempted to open it if we got McConnell and Graham in the same week. Alas, it was not to be.
